We used exactly the same type of paint on our walls and ceilings--BM Aura paint, matte finish. Ceilings are all Super White (as are the walls in the kitchen, LR, DR, hallway, foyer/stairway). FWIW, we used BM Aura satin finish paint on the base molding (matched to the wall colors in each room).

I used Aura Bath & Spa paint in both my bathrooms. I really love it. It's matte and I find the finish to appear very velvety and rich. Holds up to scrubbing well and TOUCHES UP beautifully if you ever need to. I have red in one bath and navy in another. A friend used the same color red in her bathroom, in a different paint and sheen and I don't care for it at all. The sheen really can make a difference. I previously had satin (Ace Royal brand) and didn't like the sheen. The Aura Bath paint covered fully in one coat, but I still used two. I've used Regal also in the past, but not their kitchen and bath. I'm sure you'll be fine with any of their paints. I'll continue to buy the Aura Bath paint for our bathrooms. I don't have experience with any of their other paints so it might be good to contact them. I wouldn't want anything higher than eggshell for the kitchen, but that's just my visual preference. Because of the cost of the Aura, I wouldn't use it for larger areas. I believe it would hold up well though. Did you ever see the Aura matte finish? I haven't seen their satin so I don't know if I'd use their Kitchen paint or not. I'd go with that or Regal over the Aura for a kitchen.

Not weird at all. Actually gives just the right amount of subtle variation. Walls: flat or sateen/velvet(depending on how a paint company calls it) or eggshell(depending on the room-kitchens/bathrooms/kids' rooms/dens are doing better with higher sheen level). Woodwork: semi gloss. Ceilings: flat (you can go also high gloss if you wish and if the architecture supports it but it should be done by highly skilled professional, and usually is prohibitively expensive)

We had a condo (although not contemporary). I painted the walls, ceiling and woodwork all the same white and all the same finish (matte). But, my reason for not doing a semi-gloss on the trim was the trim was dinky…and I didn’t want to call attention to it. It worked! If the woodwork is something special, would you like it to stand out? It won’t be an in your face difference, but a difference none the less. One other thing…what ever you decide …there is still that shadow around the raised trim which falls back onto the walls, so I don’t understand how one finish will make the space feel bigger. Looking at inspiration photos doesn’t help because the rooms have been professionally lighted to perfection and there are no blemishes. This room looks like all is in white matte…maybe Why not try the matte walls and on one area of the woodwork do a sample of gloss and the other of the matte. I really am interested how it all turns out.
