This past weekend was all about using the compost, not adding to it. Last year's batch has now been spread on the new garden. Of course, this means that there's space in the bins again (living in the city, I use garbage can composters), so it will soon be time to refill them again. The new plan includes: shaken-out sod removed from the new garden bed, Winter kitchen scraps that have been stockpiled outdoors in lidded buckets, a bag full of random yard waste from a very late-season yard cleanup, some old leaves from a friend (we don't really get leaves in our fenced city yard), and possibly some rabbit and/or chicken manure, since I recently found sources for both. I'm hoping that for once, I'll have enough one-time additions to actually produce some significant heat. Anything's possible, right? :-)

Ive already done a few (hehehe) I had some fresh azure monkshood and delphiniums that I wanted to get in the dirt ASAP, so I started with that and followed with lupines, hollyhock mallow and some montbrietta (also wanted to get that in fresh). Limiting myself to perennials that actuallY NEED the cold for now. I think I made a mistake in DSing some california poppies in the beds in front, not sure if that was a good idea or not. Not sure if the seeds should be frozen, not sure if the slugs and earwigs will eat them as soon as they sprout. I think tomorrow Ill do balloon flowers (I got pink --I hope).

Hi all, I just posted this on the "Swap thank you" thread, and I'm gonna post it here too! I seem to have come home with fewer of the black plastic plant trays than I arrived with! I really, really need them to grow stuff in and to carry stuff around in for the swaps, so if you wound up with oneor morewould you please keep them and bring them back to the Fall Swap so I can get them back to use again? I use them to move stuff around my yard when Im growing it before the swap, and with as much as I bring, it would be impossible to handle it all without the trays to put it in.
