Tobacco Road color issues! Help!

We just purchased our new house and had it repainted before moving in. I saw many posts about how much everyone loved Tobacco road by Duron... I love how it turned out in our Kitchen but in our living room it looks really dark and Gold! I found this formula on decor chick's blog. I have compared it to the original formula from Sherwin Williams, they are pretty much the same. But on the photos i've seen on here it looks much lighter, more like the plantation beige. I need help with what I should do. Should I paint my living room a lighter shade like plantation beige, or do a pittsfield buff, or even SW believable buff, and have it still work with the Tobacco road in the kitchen and bedrooms? Or maybe just paint the one wall the TV armoire is a lighter shade? Or just keep it the way it is, becuase I can live with it:-) And my hubby does not want to paint again for a long time! Here's photos so you can see! Oh and the white on the trim and ceiling is SW Roman Column...

I have SW Whole Wheat in my kitchen and family room area. My understanding is that this is very similar to Tobacco Road and I actually had SW give me color to go samples of both that were quite similar.

In the rest of the adjoining rooms I have SW Believable Buff. It complements the Whole Wheat very well, but it still has the gold undertones, it is just lighter.

The house is still under construction, and much of the wood trim work is not yet done so I apologize for the mess, but here are a few shots of each color.

I also think your rooms look great in the pictures, but you need to be happy living in them every day. Your kitchen is stunning with the mix of painted and stained cabinets!

I loved SW color sample pots and they saved me from making some huge mistakes while choosing colors for the new build. I wish I had used them more! Every color looks different in different lighting/housing situations and the $5 was worth avoiding an expensive mistake.

Just wanted to thank all of you for your photos and input - they finished painting yesterday and we love the Tobacco Road - my husband wants to paint the whole house with it! Like you all said, it is definitely not too dark and adds warmth to our room which it really needed because one of the rooms is basically a wall of windows - which is nice but makes it very difficult to give the room warmth and personality because of the lack of wall space for art, etc. and the fact that I can't do window treatments with so many windows. So the color really helps - thanks again so much! If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will do that soon.

Oh, please tell me more about the Dried Tobacco in your DIL's powder room-- that is exactly where I was thinking of putting DT in our home! Is it greenish? What colors go good with it? Do you have a picture of her powder room, by chance? Okay, I tried to take a picture of the tops of my paint cans, but it didn't work-- camera is not cooperating. So, here's my best shot at providing the formulas. I got mine from HD, so I would suggest goint there. I got a sample of TR from Lowe's and it was a shade darker. Don't think it looked right. When you go to the HD paint desk, ask them to look up the "Millennium" formulas for the colors (I tried Duron first, but they didn't have that in their system). If you google Duron Millennium paint colors, it will show TR (and all the colors on the strip), so I'm pretty sure these are the "orginal formulas". My samples are in quart sizes, so the formulas below are for a quart size in the Interior Eggshell Enamel, but they can adjust to the gallon size if that's what you want: Plantation Beige: B-20 C-132 I-8 Tobacco Road: B-44 C-304 F-8 Tattersall Brown: B-144 C-12 F-24 Dried Tobacco: C-196(1 oz.) I-8 KX-128 L-48(1 oz.) There was a "0" (zero) noted for the "oz." column on all the other colorants-- so there should only be an "oz." specification for the DT, on both the "C" and "L" colorants. Hope that makes sense! Again, if you ask them to mix the "Millennium" formulas in a quart size, they should be perfect. Just take the formulas above to double-check. As for the gold tint, I would definitely say there is more of a gold tint than green-- especially in the Plantation Beige and Tobacco Road. The Tattersall Brown is mostly brown, with golden undertone. I haven't quite figured out the Dried Tobacco yet-- it has a greenish, bronzish look to me. What do you think, since you've seen it IRL?? Here is a photo I took of the Tobacco Road paint strip. I also used Tobacco Road in my kitchen/hearth room, then lightened up to the Plantation Beige in my entry, dining room, and living room. They get less light and I wanted the walls a little lighter. I actually went on down the strip and used Sandy Lane in an office. I have a creamy white (vanilla bean) for my trim and ceiling white. But if it helps any, here's the strip. The Tobacco Road is painted across the top of the brochure, then going up the strip it's Plantation Beige, Millet, Sandy Lane and Whispering Birch. At least staying on the same strip is "safe" and you know they will blend. I went with a green called Fenland but it's similar to the Mozelle in the picture for master bedroom and bath and it blends well too. I have plenty of pics but I think if you search Tobacco Road you'll probably find most of them :-) Good luck!

Dabunch, You feel my pain. Thanks so much for all the info. That is exactly what is happening. While it may look good in the living room where there is more white trim, I can't leave it in the sunroom. It screams gold! The white trim would probably tone it down. My neighbor came in, who has good sense of color, didn't think it looked as bad as I said, but did agree that I need a warm color, but not a bright color. Believe me, Tobacco Road in my sunroom looks bright. Some times of the day it looks worse than others...very gold or pissy green/yellow. I will get a sample of BM Fennel seed and give it a try. Why not, my walls look like a patchwork of color right now. Can you explain why greyed toned colors tend to look better in these two rooms? They also suggested I try Restoration Hardware Latte for a warm neutral (I hear it's compatible to BM Crisp Khaki. ) I will be up early visiting the paint store before work. Again thanks for the info and for understanding. I feel like such an idiot but I have been told that many people try alot of colors before they find the right one. YOu would think that as a house painter's daughter I would have learned from my dad. He passed away 21 years ago and had such an eye for color. I once picked out two neutral colors (the BM whites) and he warned me. I came home from work and asked him if that was a primer on the wall!. He literally walked out of my house (but repainted it the next day). I feel like he is looking down at me and laughing right now! I even tried Farrow and Bell Farrow's Cream (. Not bad but will see how yours and the few others work out. Hopefully, I can paint by Saturday. I am going to try Rest. Hardware' Butter. I have it in my kitchen and I see a slight peach undertone in it. Maybe that is why it looks so creamy and good with my cherry cabinets.

That color, at least on my monitor, doesn't look anything like Tobacco Road.

My last house was painted primarily in Believable Buff. It's ok for a very light neutral. I regretted not going darker. My current house is primarily Camelback which is on the same strip, but a darker value (I think it's one darker than Whole Wheat).

Your rooms don't look like they need to be repainted. You can lighten that room in a less drastic way than new paint (unless you're just really set on repainting it).

Here's my Calemback, FWIW. it's a bit darker in person, but not significantly:

What about adjusting the formula. Try the formula at 50% in the living room area or wherever you feel it looks too dark.

Did you ever figure out what to do about Tobacco Road? I just had a sample mixed at SW with their formula and it is super yellow/gold. Someone in a different post said Tobacco Road is the same color as Behr Premium Plus color Raffia Ribbon. I have the Raffia Ribbon chip and love it! It's not screaming yellow/gold like the Tobacco Road sample from SW. Maybe it's closer to the original.
