At my farmers market they sell jars of jam for $4 and $5, this is for a #1 jar ... so three jars for $10 plus a silver spoon is a good deal for the buyer.

It all depends on how good a jam maker you are! ;o)

WOW....the 3 jams, silver spoon and basket is well worth more then $10. I'd absolutely love to get something like that in a gift exchange...how wonderful!

I think that is a wonderful gift. And way over the $10 limit. DH asked me why I still make homemade jam when you can buy it at the Dollar Store. He said when you figure in the cost of the fruit, electricity or gas, glass jars & lids, and the wage if paid by the hour, the jam whould be priced in the 3 figure range. I do it because I love the taste and this way I know what goes in it. Plus I always cut back on the sugar. Commercial jams and jellies seem too sweet with hardly any fruit. BTW he is not a big toast and jam person, so doesn't really get it. Luckily my FIL loves what I make.

I agree, that's wroth more than $10. I sold a bunch of my "extra" jam at a yard sale a couple of years ago and got $3 a jar for it.

Ok....I'll stop feeling chintzy!...But these are only 8 oz jars....and the spoon's only plated.....and says "Merry Christmas" and is dated 1984...

At our craft shows we sell an 8 oz jar of homemade jam for $3.95 in the local area-- if we're at a bigger show in Syracuse or Rochester $4.95-- $5.25 is what most crafters get.

We've sold alot of small Christmas baskets with a jar of jam, a small bag of homemade muffin or biscuit mix,a small bag of cocoa and a few wrapped Christmas candies for $15.00--so I don't think you have anything to worry about-- for $10.00 they'll be getting a tasty bargin.

Hmm I used to sell my pints of homemade jam for $6 at craft shows..6 years ago..people went GA GAHHHHHhh over it for that price! It was the only thing I ever sold out of!

Linda, I think that's the first time I've ever seen (read) you seel yourself short! LOL! It would make a lovely gift, and the value definately exceeds $10.

As a comparison, though, pints of jellys were selling at the farmer's market here last summer for anywhere from $5.50 to $12.50. (The higher end was for the really "exotic" stuff like lavendar with champagne and blackberry with cointreau).

Well....maybe 2 jars....but this is my bridge club...most....well half anyway...LOL!! ..are good friends...
Maybe 2 jars and save a third for a good friend....who will get jam anyway...

Anyhow...thanks for making me feel better about giving a gift that "I just had" in the basement.
I know a couple of the women hint shamelessly about hoping for a gift of jam....and likely there are a couple who would rather have Welches grape than Honeybell marmalade, or caramel peach jam...

I gave my jam as part of a package once as well. I had 2 jars a container of coffee and a panetone. The price limit for this was higher. The group this was for calls it a "Thieves Auction" because things get stolen so much. It got stolen back and forth by the same 2 people who saw what it was, the initial unwrpapper did not show of that the jam was homemade.

Now I often bring an item to these events that I would like for my kitchen. There is so often dreck available that this way I have an easy out. One year i bought myself a nice cookbook this way. However last year I ended up with an ipod shuffle with the price limit at $15 ;-) Somehow to do with an extended warranty it really was less then $15.

I say the 2 jars of jam and the spoon is perfect.

Linda, I would give $25 for such a basket. Two jars and the spoon are still worth more than $10.00 in my humble opinion.
