Yes, Maxmom, also true of the book Marley & me : life and love with the world's worst dog by John Grogan. Is that one of the dog books you were referring to? Also a really wonderful book, if you haven't already read it. I didn't see the movie, because I didn't want to spoil the pictures I already had in my mind of these people and their dog LOL!

I love to read... but the description of this book reminded me of two movies that we enjoyed (live stream from NetFlix) last night. Both were about dogs and were of the heartwarming variety. They were: "Smitty" and "Angel Dog".

BTW, I'm posting my chicken-tarragon recipe on the recipe post this morning. It's not the salad, it's in a cream sauce you serve with rice. The salad is just anything you want to put in it.

Yes I read Marly and Me and also saw the movie as I just can't resist watching cute dogs. Think back, if you're old enough, to some of the other wonderful dog stories, or any animal stories even, and they're all tear-jerkers. Are you old enough to remember Elizabeth Taylor and her animal movies?

I wondered where that reference in this thread to chicken tarragon came from. Anyway, it's my very favorite dish to make at home because it's so easy and good. I use the recipe from the New York Times Cookbook. I always make a double or triple amount of sauce as I can use it with some other meats also. I love tarragon in a recipe.

Maximom, Patti very kindly posted her chicken-tarragon recipe because of a request that I had made. I am not old enough to remember Elizabeth Taylor's animal movies when they were first produced, but have seen National Velvet on TV and enjoyed it. I didn't know she was in other animal movies - do you remember the titles?

I remember when Old Yeller was shown at our local movie theater when I was a kid. I didn't see it, but my sister did. I don't think even as an adult that I would be brave enough to see the movie! I believe it was celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain who said in his book that he saw the movie, and believed that some miracle would happen and the dog would be saved. When it wasn't, he was completely crushed! These many years later he still remembers that.

Stacy, I was thinking of a couple of the Lassie movies that Elizabeth Taylor played in as a child. She surely was a beautiful child.

I also remember reading Lad, a Dog as a child and loving it. I believe there were a few other Lad books. As a matter of fact, I still, 70 some years later,remember a new word I learned from a Lad book: tonneau cover, which is something that can cover the open part of a foreign car. Funny the things you remember.

Yes, Elizabeth Taylor was a very beautiful child, and beautiful when she was grown. I wasn't aware that she had been in Lassie movies. She must have begun acting from quite a young age.
