Yes, good point. I meant to suggest the Pet Forum to Heather re her allergic dog. I've gotten lots of great advice there (and lots of sympathy, too).

I have always been pounced on by several members of that forum. There are some really zealot types there with VERY strong opinions.
Clare

I've posted there, but Claire is right. There are some there that aren't real nice! I was treated fine.
If I were Heather, I'd try it. But lay it all out just like she's done here. Less room for the not so nice peeps to jump in and be sarcastic.

I don't mind the pet questions here.

I've posted in the pet forum before and was not assaulted, but I saw many who were. There is a specific forum for "animal debates" (and, whew, can they be hostile), but it occasionally spills over to the regular pet forum. Lots of drama sometimes.

It's different when you're just sitting around the KT with friends.

The Pets Forum is a good source of advice. Check out this link where Donna Loomis jumped on a poster who decided to take care of a starving pregnant cat whose owner left her out to fend for herself.

Donna writes '...I couldn't even finish reading your post...' and then goes on to advise what the OP should have done, assuming every country in the world has Animal Rescue Groups. A good example of the typical American who knows nothing about the world outside that little teacup they sit in and see nothing wrong in judging others harshly for doing a kind thing.

Whew, can she be hostile LOL

Here is a link that might be useful: Donna Loomis jumps ...

I have also posted pet questions here at the KT. Sometimes its all in where you feel comfortable. There are lots of knowledgable peeps here that can answer questions faster than the Pet Forum.

I wouldn't hesitate in asking a question about my pets when needed, here at the KT. Even though I've only been here a short time, I feel very comfortable in asking, and with any advice received.

There are so many animal lovers, and warm and welcome people, that I consider many of you cyber-friends who have valuable knowledge in many areas.

I used to frequent the pet forum but not so much anymore. Like sephia said, Meghane is always there to help. She sure gives alot of herself!

Just for the record.... I wouldn't call donna's response to pranjal "hostile" at all. She simply voiced her opinion. Would I have done what pranjal did? Probably.

Mafdet, thank you. That post is nearly two years old and I had forgotten it. I guess I do have strong opinions about what I considered to be stealing. I probably shouldn't say anything in my defense, because that would make it look like I'm trying to weasle out of a situation. But if you look back over the posts I think we really were talking about, you will see that they are often downright nasty. I don't think I was nasty or rude. I believe I was telling this person that they needed to be careful when taking someone else's pet, even if they felt that it was being mistreated.

Backing away from the table slowly, now..........

I posted there a few times and was greeted warmly. I wouldn't hesitate to ask a question. I always look forward to reading Meghane's posts, she is such a sweetie.

As with any forum, including this one, there will always be differing opinions/ideas and some get beat up for expressing them. I find it quite sad, but it will likely never change.

I think a lot people think of their pets like children - which probably brings out the passion in people. I've seen a few not-so-nice posts on the Pet forum but I usually just skip over them, but I have learned a lot on that forum.

Ohhh, what a relief to see that I am not the only one that got assaulted on the pet forum. The good news is, the person that did the assaulting got assaulted by everyone else for assaulting me. I just asked a question, she apparently thought it was her opportunity to let loose on "stupid pet owners". Gee, I didnt think I was a stupid pet owner, just had a question about a strange behavior. She claims to have left the forum after that, I suspect she is still there under another name. I dont visit anymore LOL.

Yes, they like to pounce on people on the Pet Forum. I'll never post again, nor will my friend who sought help there at my suggestion. Two people in particular like to criticize rather than offer an answer to the question.

Pets Forum is not as safe or comfortable as the KT, but there are experts who give good advice and we share a love of animals.

(One participant there is self-described as mildly autistic, so try to take that into account when he touts a raw food diet as the answer to all problems.)

I go on occasionally like here. Was only a month or so ago that one self proclaimed expert on there left after insulting too many people. She actually had the nerve to say in her well publicized and thought out exit. "I am never wrong" and something like "I know everything there is to know about dogs"
