Getting urine smell out
Comments (34)Krud Kutter. Sold at Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart... (You can also start with Spot Shot--this got red paint out of cream carpet for me, but it has a strong chemical smell; if you have urine in hardwood floors, Out!--usually found at Wal-Mart--works well.) It works on just about everything...except oil spills on concrete. I am a Jane-of-All-Trades (art, construction, automotive, anything, everything) and incredibly messy. Krud Kutter is amazing for laundry stains--removes blood, right before your eyes, with just a quick squirt. It doesn't bleach items AND is eco-friendly. I never dilute the stuff because I just like to go strong the first time around, but it IS a concentrated formula. I have a 12-year-old chihuahua that just loves to hike his leg on everything, and he also doesn't like to drink a lot of water; so, his urine is POTENT. I've used Krud Kutter on the diapers I now make him wear as well as in the carpet cleaner, and it is amazing. Best two cleaning products ever: Krud Kutter (comes in several iterations--I like the Tough Task) and Magic Eraser...See Morecat urine stain/odor on hardwood floor
Comments (7)Urine off is suppose to be a very good product. All the products like Urine off may have to be reapplied a few times if it is really bad. Very important to pour a lot of the product on so it will soak. Must air dry. Many people put plastic over it so the product doesn't evaporate. Should be soaking for as many hours as possible. These products don't work within a half hour. Nature's Miracle is also highly rated. Same principle as Urine off. If you have used Urine Off correctly and tried in a few times, try another product like Nature's Miracle. It is actually more important to get rid of the odor. Depending on a number of factors, you may or may not get rid of the stain. If the stain is only on your hardwood finish, sanding will remove it. If the stain goes down to the wood, it would have to be sanded and then try these products again. Last resort, use wood bleach or replace the boards....See MoreGetting cat smell out of oriental rug
Comments (30)Brutus unanswered the difference between simple pee accidents from neutered or spayed animals and the pee/spray deposited by unfixed animals. Fixed-animal urine stink is bad, but depending on the length of time and the underlying material sometimes you can get it out. But I have washed cat towels from the bedding of an uneutered feral I took in last fall perhaps two or three dozen times and I can still smell the pee/spray stink. And I use a Euro f/l washing machine and can, and do, go to 205F with all kinds of additives. And nautrally I started when these were fresh sprayings and treated them with several different enzymes and urine smell removing treaments. (BTW, I find a product called Get Serious to be better than Nature's Miracle and Petzyme. All available at Petsmart-type places.) Anyway, if the rug smells of simple cat urine odor and it has been untreated for awhile, I doubt you could get it out because you might have to use chemicals (enzymes, for instance that are damaging to natural woolf fibers) or such vigorous cleaning that you would damage the rug. But if you wanted to take the chance you could try. However if the smells are from unneutered animals, I wouldn't even bring it to my house to try. I do feral cat rescue and am totally over the yuck factor of cat pee, but the smell of it still drives me bats. HTH, Molly~...See MoreGetting rid of strong cat urine oder in carpets...
Comments (4)The options that I know of are an enzyme based odor eliminator like natures miracle, Odoban, or replacing the carpet and carpet pad. The enzyme cleaner needs something like 24-48 hours to work, meaning it needs to stay wet with product for that time. The Odoban is a disinfectant solution that has never failed me for difficult odors. I get this at home depot for $10 for a concentrated gallon. You dilute and apply, and let dry. The more concentrated, and more heavily you apply, the better chance of complete odor removal in one application. Or you can replace the old carpeting, AND pad, as this will really hold the ammonia salts from the urine, clean and seal the subfloor with killz, and recarpet. Urine, and especially cat urine has a reputation for being difficult. So it my require multiple applications of product to get rid of the scent, it may smell clean finally, but with summer heat and humidity or rain, the smell can almost reactivate and you can detect it again. Sorry you have to deal with cat urine...the things cats parents deal with!!! On another note, peeing somewhere they are not supposed to usually means something is wrong. Could be not having enough litter boxes, an illness or stress from a new person, or moving, diet change, something like that. Good Luck and I hope my advice has helped....See More- 10 years ago
