Ming Green Marble Countertops?

I really love the pale soft almost sea-foamish color of Ming Green marble and I was wondering if there is such thing as countertops made completely out of ming? Seems like it is only ever used in smaller pieces like mosaics. Is it too soft or breaks too easily to be used in slab sized pieces? I have no idea if such a thing is even available or how much it would cost, but I am currently considering doing a cosmetic reno to my very small kitchen. I definitely want white cabinets and probably white ceramic subway backsplash. I love Carrara or some other white marble or even one of the marble-like quartzes as the countertops, but I am wondering if something with a soft color like the Ming would be nice but no too sharp contrast to all the white?

Considering Ming is a soft green almost aqueous color you would think it would be perfect for bathrooms, too, but I don't think I've ever seen Ming vanity countertops, either.

Most green marbles I saw were actually serpentine. I don't think I saw any Ming slabs though (and I don't know if it's a serpentine), but I do agree it's purrrty.

It sounds like it would be great in your kitchen. But then like green an awful lot. :)

The tile in this bathroom goes up to about 56" (48" of subway tile + about 8" for the trim pieces and mosaic border) above the floor -- which is higher than you would normally go. The reason I did it so high is because I didn't want the decorative tile border to hit the medicine cabinet in an awkward location (i.e., I didn't want to have to cut into one of the trim pieces or the strip of mosaic to fit the bottom wood trim of the medicine cabinet). A downside of having the tile so high is that the light switch/power outlet is also higher than normal (since I didn't want to put that in the middle of the tile, either) -- so young kids can't turn on the lights by themselves. I think 48" is a more standard height -- but I would think about how the tile will fall relative to any other elements you need to work around (e.g., medicine cabinets, windows, light switches/outlets, etc. Here's another bath that I tiled up to 51" (48" to the top of the subway tile plus 3" of trim) -- the black liner ended up fitting in perfectly with the bottom trim piece on the medicine cabinet:

Hi astrobotanist Thanks for answering my post. Glad to hear you are enjoying your ming green bathroom because just last week I made my decision to go with the ming green and purcased an interesting hexagon green and white mosaic tile which I have been eyeing for weeks. I plan to use it on the shower floor, niche, and bathtub niche. I found a white tile that resembles a white thassos marble which I plan to use for the floor and walls. Now just deciding on size of the tile. Good to know that there are happy ming green customers out there as it is not a very typical choice.

I was going to suggest either a soft lavender or even pink. The trick is going to be getting a shade that's 'interesting' enough without being too lavender or too pink, which is easy to do. I'd look for one with grey to taupe undertones, and simply plan on test-painting a few areas first to see how the color feels throughout the day. Many paint companies also have web sites with sample room photos you can use to try out various colors. (I know Behr has one.) Many of them even allow you to upload your own photos. I wouldn't rely on it to choose between 'muted pink #1' and 'muted pink #2', but you could get an idea if muted pink makes you want to gag, or looks surprisingly good.

Hey there. The Biltmore from the Tile Shop is similar to my backsplash but the coloration was definitely stronger, more green than my ming green marble. In person, the ming green doesn't read as green, more grey, cream, even some blue, but also touches of green. But you don't look at it at first and think "that is a green backsplash", whereas the Biltmore to me was instantly a green. Same goes for the Ann Sacks - it is much darker in tone and more definitely green. My backsplash tile is also known as Jade - search for that and you'll find something closer to the color and tone I have. Mine was a closeout on ebay that was fantastically priced but has long since been sold out - great for me, but stinky for anyone else. I think the white and light green sounds like a beautiful plan, very peaceful. Less contrast makes the space look bigger; that's what I did in my small kitchen. I'd look around at local stone yards. If you can't find slabs of ming marble, or if it isn't a robust counter stone, there are some lovely light green granites that might give you a similar effect. Maybe something like costa esmeralda? The one remodelfla posted is gorgeous. I also saw a light green soapstone at one place.

We're using Verde Dark on our island and one perimeter area, not as soothing as the posted stone but still green marble and we love it.

I just saw a sample of Rainforest last night; it is beautiful! I have been looking for a subtle green granite for my white cabinets, too. Typhoon Green is my front runner at this point.

I'm pretty certain I've seen a Ming Green slab in a slab yard. Keep hunting.

There are some quartzites that are very similar: Green Waves comes to mind, but it has movement and some other colors in there

I agree that Costa Smerelda is a pretty close alternative; as a granite, it would be more durable. Once again, it has way more movement and some other colors.
