Red paint that matches this fabric

Hi guys - I know reds are hard and I am looking hard! I am headed over to the paint store that sells BM and PL paint over the weekend to start looking at paint chips. Any suggestions on a shade that matches this fabric swatch? It is for a dresser that will be in a baby's room.

For reference:

The chair that this is sitting on is painted "historic red" by American Traditions.

The left chip has BM Merlot Red as the bottom color.

The right chip has BM Million Dollar Red as the bottom color.

I am looking for a deep red color, very similar to the fabric color. I was thinking maybe Spanish Red or Umbria Red from the Pottery Barn collection.

If your BenM has the new Aura paint with the Affinity palette, Caliente AF-290 would be a good chip to pull.

deep base paints need more than 2 coats of paint. Be prepared to apply several coats. You may want to apply a dark primer before applying your finish coat.

Take the chute deflector off. Go to a paint store that does colour matching. They can mix the correct colour for you. However, places like Tractor Supply often carry colours for machinery. Check with them first.

Go to your favorite search engine and under images put in "Oak Flooring" or "rooms with oak flooring" and see what colors they have on the walls. They won't be labeled but it will at least give you a starting point.

I really like the backsplash idea but after looking some more at the space, size of the fabric, and pattern I don't think I can do it. It won't match up in the middle without buying more, there's that small section between the base cabinet and washer that's 16" long instead of 13" so I wouldn't have enough there and I really don't think I can't sew the pattern straight. I can see me ruining the fabric tring to make a liner too. :( I've been wanting to make a bulletin board somewhere. What about above the drying rack? I saw one of those wooden wall calendar holders at the thrift store over the weekend for a few bucks. I could paint it black, hang it rectangular with the fabric and black ribbon. I could add a few black and white photos.

I ended up getting the red oak stairs and the white oak floor. Did white oak, no stain, water poly. Stained the stairs darker to make it look intentional. I might have been able to get away with keeping the red oak stairs natural, too, if the floor installers had been asked to, and they had looked for boards that were redder and installed them near the stairs. There were some boards that looked like red oak. Here's the thread and pics ... Unless she buys the Aura from BenM. No more than two coats of the Caliente, may or may not even need a primer. Depends on what she has to paint over on the dresser.

I haven't even put Aura on a wall yet, but assume it would be a great option for furniture too. Anybody know for sure?

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I ended up watching the football game yesterday so I won't make it to the paint store until Monday. FYI - the dresser is plain wood that I planned on using a dark grey primer on first - probably Zinsser Bullseye.

I am all about using the top of the line paint - that is why I am a big fan of BM . . . however, what is the price difference in the Aura paint and the regular gallons of the BM stuff. Is it as durable as Satin Impervo? I know that only certain paints are available in the deep base. Since it will be on furniture in a kids room . . . durability is very important.

Aura is $55 per gallon everywhere - the price is set. Don't know what Impervo is going for in your area.

The info on durability and Aura is rather impressive. Like I mentioned, I haven't even used it on a wall yet. But if I were painting a dresser dark red, I'd be asking the BenM folks what they thought.

The time savings alone could be significant - recoat red and dark colors after ONE HOUR is nothing short of life changing! lol! :-)

In the long run, you may need less product and spend less money even tho Aura appears more expensive on the front end.

A lady who posted on Rate my Space had a beautiful red room. She took her table cover to Lowe's and they matched it exactly with Valspar paint.

Alright . . . you had me sold on Aura until I found out that it is not available in Athens, Georgia. Does anyone have another suggestion or do you know if Aura is available in Atlanta. I will be headed that direction this weekend.

Just returned from the paint store and found the following colors that I like:
BM Umbria Red
BM Currant Red
PL Velvet Red

Anyone have experiences with these colors. It looks like I will be going with the BM Waterborne Satin Impervo for the paint. I have never used it on furniture before.

you can buy aura from http://buyaurapaint.com/ i haven't bought paint from them yet, but have bought a fan deck with no problem.

So . . . I did something rash because I just don't have time to think about it any more. Last night I looked at the samples of the Velvet Red and Spanish Red that I picked up. I don't like either one. I just now went online and ordered the Aura in Caliente. It looks like the deep red that I want, but who can tell online.
We shall see . . . wish me luck.

Update - got the Aura paint in Caliente. Put one coat of grey zinser on the chest and then two coats of the Caliente. It looks GREAT! The color is perfect . . . so perfect that my mom keeps trying to steal the rest of the gallon. I have never dealt with a red paint that went on so easily and covered in only two coats. It does get a little tricky because it dries faster than what I am used to. I will post pictures after I get the hardware on. I have been letting it cure for a couple of weeks before putthing the drawers back in and everything.

Oh good, glad the color worked out. I've heard from other people that you have to paint with Aura and get out of it. Apply it and move on being careful not to over work it 'cuz it does dry fast -- recoat in an hour and all that stuff I guess. Can't wait to see the pix.
