I think those are the Anchor Hocking ones with the rattly lids. I've seen some like the others you have pictured, but with less fancy knobs on top, and like the Anchor Hocking, they're available at Target, WalMart, etc. I fell in love with the Anchor Hocking ones, too, until I saw the loose, unsealing lids. Unfortunately, the others hold on a little too strong, so I was afraid the kids would end up pulling them off the counter trying to get the lids off. Of course, that's not as big a concern with baking ingredients.

Look for the Anchor Hocking Montana jars - you can find a great selection on Amazon but they're also almost always at Target too. They are very much like the Wms Sonoma ones you posted and they have the rubber gasket ring for the air tight seal (and I'll bet they're much cheaper). You can get them w/ brushed nickel, black, bronze and red lids. I use them for cookies and snacks on our bar/hutch (I've totally lost my ability to post photos but there's a good picture of them in my kitch on the FKB)...hope that helps!

IF you don't mind brushed finish for the lids (a little more modern in look, perhaps, but also much easier to keep clean in terms of fingerprints, etc.) and there's an IKEA near you, these are a great deal. I use them for my granola collection, along with rice and pastas. The lid has a silicone gasket so it's (so far) a good seal, yet easy enough to take off.

rhome, I might go ahead and get one of the ones with rattly lids for storing rice, since we go through it so fast. All this time I've been storing it in the 50lb bag it comes in, so this will be an improvement. It's too bad they don't have a seal, they're so pretty!

mnhockeymom, what a treat to see your kitchen again, one of my all time favorites. I saw those Montana canisters on Amazon but they didn't have the sizes I wanted in stock. I'll check out Target.

ctlady, thanks for the link! We do have an Ikea about an hour away ... never been there, I really need to take a trip down. Do you have those canisters? The smaller container looks too small for what I need and the larger containers look too narrow at the top to fit a measuring cup.

Erikanh ... yes, the IKEA ones would be too narrow for a measuring cup for sure. As for the Crate and Barrel ones, I don't have those, but I have ones that came from King Arthur flour way back (not sure they still sell them?) (that I use for flour and sugar) that look identical... and they don't have any sort of gasket, just a very heavy glass lid. I love them, but they definitely don't have any sort of gasket. I wouldn't have wanted them back when we lived in Texas, where humidity and bugs were a constant problem.

The Crate & Barrel canisters do not have air-tight seals.

In the pantry I'm using a variety of Anchor Hocking jars and the Montana canisters, that MNhockeymom mentioned, for my bread flour and various pastas. I have 2 of the W-S canisters sitting on the countertop filled with pretzel sticks and peanuts in the shell. One seal is more fitted than the other. Unless you can buy them on sale, or at least see them in person, I'd advise against.

i ran across a canister set online from all clad. the reviews say they hold a full, five pound bag of flour w/room to spare. the lids are definitely air tight since most of the reviewers say they have a difficult time removing them. still, over 50 people said they are the best. set of 3 was $115, i think. sorry you're going to have to google them. i'm exhausted...

I have a couple of the large size jars "French Hermetic" from the Container Store & they seal really well. Mine are about 20 years old. Holds a whole bag of flour or a bag of sugar...the average size you see in the market..5 lb? They also sell nice sturdy clear plastic scoops in various sizes for scooping out the sugar or the flour. You can also buy a pack of replacement seals if you need them. My original seals were replaced just recently, but I probably should have replaced them a few years ago.

Thanks a bunch to everyone for all your great tips and links! I ended up getting a combination of airtight and non-airtight canisters. I love the fact that they were all available at Wal-Mart/Target and were very inexpensive.

Did you put just a clear glass in your door frames, or is it beveled? And can I ask the size of your cabinets on the hutch piece? Oh, one more thing. Where did you get your wood counter? I love the color, thats kind of the finish Im going for.

No problem! The doors are plain glass, not beveled. The cabinet in the middle is 32 inches, the ones on the end are 20 inches.

The wood counter is from Crown Point, stained same as the island cabinets, russet. I think it's maple. I have to warn you though, that I'm wondering if I should have asked them to distress the top, because I've already put some little scratches in it. I used an almond stick they sent me to cover the scratches so they're not noticeable. I asked DH and DD not to open cans on the wood top, but other than that I'm not going to worry about it too much. If it gets really scratched up in a few years I can refinish it pretty easily.

BTW, I was reading your pendant thread, and I wanted to tell you how much I love your layout. Looks great!

Can you please give me info on the canisters~ which are sealed and not & which are Target/Walmart? Love em. I won't have a proper pantry or cute hutch, but I've pledged to have a kitchen closet that doesn't make me cringe! But, I don't want to be spending precious kitchen funds on canisters either.

Hi Katie!

The canisters with the metal lids are airtight because the lids screw on ... they're called cracker jars. The canisters with the round, clear glass lids aren't airtight, no gasket. Both types are available at both Target and Wal-mart. I bought the square ones in my hutch (airtight) from Wal-Mart.

The latches just went on today but so far I'm loving them! They open and latch easily. I find them easier to open than the twist kind. The ones on the double doors may take some getting used to, but I think they'll be fine ... and they look pretty!

I do love your pantry. There's something to be said about a beautiful, functional pantry. Your gorgeous cabinets make the Walmart canisters look classy!

Oh, cool!!! I was also seriously considering those screw-top square jars from Wal-mart (on the right side of your photo) I like the square part because they pack into cupboards more closely, and the screw-top because of bugs. They look great! I also really like the Ikea jars which have a rectangle of "blackboard" on them so you can write on the jars, but they are not the right size. I think I'll go ahead and get the square ones, and use some of that new "blackboard paint" I've seen and paint my own writable rectangles on them.

Great look. Was in Target tonight and bought a glass rectangle with lid. It has a stainless top with a silicone gasket.

Where does everyone keep their little bottles of extracts (vanilla, almond), food colors, decorative sugars, etc. I find they take almost an entire shelf in my pantry.

Beautiful pantry Erika! Like you, I would love for someone to make the big glass jars with an airtight lid. I find the cracker jars to be not airtight either, hope you have better luck. I'm resorting to OXO pop-ups.

Yeah, some very glam kitchens, but the burn marks on the wood inset between the burners in this one scared me.
