Kitchen Aid Attachments..whats your fav

Hubby asked if I would like a couple of attachments as I don not have any...thought Id get a idea of what seems to be most popular and of course often used. I like the new Cheese Grater attachment and the Ice cream and Pasta but truthfully I dont know how much fresh pasta Id actually make and the same goes for ice cream..It would probably be a novelty in this house hmmmmmm....Help with suggestions

The only attachment I use often enough to warrant having it is the meat grinder. I often grind my own meat and I also make sausage. It's particularly good if you have a piece of beef in the freezer that has past it's prime for grilling or roasting.

If you go for the pasta attachment get the stainless steel roller not the extruder. The extruder is a PIA in my opinion.

I always wondered what the heck was the difference between the pasta roller and the pasta maker. So I want the roller and not the maker Sharon?
I would also like the meat grinder. However, what I would like the most is an extra bowl!

Amen to that, Dawn. Shade cloth is on my 'must have' list for next year also. I haven't figured out exactly how I'm going to put up the supports for it, since we'll be using cattle panels, but I know I'm going to have it. One thing I did find is that, if you order the precut material, you can get it all stitched, taped, and the grommets in place, ready to go, for a fraction of the cost of a piece that you have cut to size. A 10' x 12' precut size in white 50% shade is $50 from the Greenhouse Megastore. A custom-cut 4' x 16' (to fit the cattle panel length) one in the same material is $53 for half the amount of fabric. I'll attach the link. Any of the other sites I found had considerably higher prices. I decided on white because of the cooling effect it provides. It also comes in black, beige, and a pricey big (24' x 36') green one for $200. I wouldn't want to try to suspend something of that size over the garden. It could end up being a nightmare and require a lot of support. But whichever one I get, I will be getting one. I don't know exactly how that price compares, but I looked at some that Lowe's had and did not buy it because of the high price. I haven't looked for any local outlets for it in OK, and I have no idea what the shipping cost would be for a shade of that size. I'm sure that people will be concerned about the durability of the cloth, since it's a big expense if it's only for one season. I don't know what brand it is, but my parents bought a bunch of it to go over their patio trellis. They took it down each winter because of the snow, but they have been using the same one for roughly 20 years. And just think how nice it would be to go work in the garden if there's a shade cloth in place! Here's an idea, for those of you who go to any of the nurseries in your area. I bought an Artisan that failed and KA replaced it with a professional model (5qt) when I talked about the types of breads and pasta we made with it. I now have a 6 qt professional (will easily do 2 loaves) and would agree with markw and with those who say you should plan to keep a KA on the counter to really use and enjoy it. One of the "musts" for my kitchen remodel was a counter to upper cabinet clearance sufficient to allow the KA to be pushed back when not in use. The KA pro makes great bread doughs -- and the power is sufficient to do a couple of wet doughs that beat for 20-30 minutes. We have the pasta attachments, grinder, slicer/shredder (not used -- use the processor) and have considered the ice cream one, but we had just bought a Cuisinart ice cream maker when it came out. I know many people love bread machines, but I've never eaten a bread made in one that I thought was as good as what I could make with my KA or even a bowl and wooden spoon. That has been a while and I can't say if the results are better for those who mix only in them. I do like the control and ability to adjust and learn the feel of the dough with a mixer. If your DH already likes to bake bread (as I did before I had the KA), I think he will appreciate that also. I started having problems with my neck and arms -- sometimes impacting my hands. The mixer has been a good thing for me -- and DH likes it too. I will tell you that the 6 qt pro is louder than the Artisan. That is the one thing I'm not crazy about, but it only bothers me on the few things where it is used more than a few minutes. I've gotten used to it now, but it was really annoying at first. If they are available to you, I would check Sam's or Costco. I've seen good prices there. I would also expect some sales next month as Mother's Day approaches. My current one was bought near Christmas on sale and with a 20% off coupon for a little less than $250 if I recall correctly.

Frighteningly, I have a bird thing going in my house, too. Happened partly by accident (inherited mom's things) and partly as a response to the freaking Audubon party that happens on my lawn every day. I think it's the golf course nearby. rsslp - What is/or was your favorite accessory? donnakay - Your cookie jar is the same one my mom had when I was little. I saw one at a 2nd-hand store and made the mistake of not buying it --- it was gone when I checked back. I love Laurie's cookie jar too. catmom- Those kitties look mischievous. shelayne "she" is beautiful (dÃ©ja vu) I have 3 favorite accessories: (1) My lunchbox from when I was young. It's new home is on the hutch in the kitchen. (2) My kitchenaid mixer that survived a small kitchen fire and is still working like a charm. I use it almost every day. and (3) the egg beater peeking out of the right cabinet window on the bottom. My students signed it & gave it to me last spring. It may look out of place among the glassware, but it's priceless to me.

I only have the meat grinder/pasta maker, that's what it says on the box. and sausage stuffer. I would like another bowl too. I have the Cuisinart ice cream maker, so I don't need that. I probably don't NEED anything!

Good topic- A friend and I were shopping on Saturday for a group gift for a bridal shower. The bride registered at Macy's for lots of kitchen stuff- a bad idea if you have BB&B as an alternative. (FYI-refunds and exchanges on a registry are easier there)
Anyway she wanted the KA pasta, ice cream maker and meat grinder attachments. Problem was Macy's only had one of those in stock. I thought the ice cream maker was pricey compared to the Cuisinart, which I barely use now. The gift ended up being 3 place settings of her everyday china and the cheapest KA attachment. I was truly surprised at the cost of the KA items. I'm in agreement, an extra bowl is the best accessory!

Sherry the stainless steel roller is the one to get if you want the KA attachment. The useless one, IMHO, is the the plastic ones that come with the meat grinder/pasta maker. The meat grinder is great just not the pasta parts.

To be honest though, I prefer my hand crank pasta maker even to the stainless steel pasta roller for the KA.

I have only used the grinder for meat,and to make sausage. I didn't even it was for Pasta till I saw it on the box!
Friend found a recipe for pierrogi using the pasta maker...

so my ques. Chase, forget it?
