Trim and ceiling paint for off-white cabinets
Comments (5)I think I'd match the trim to the cabinet colour. For the ceiling, how about a ceiling white with just a hint of your wall colour in it. Looks a bit like RH Silver Sage to me. I don't know how much this is done anymore, but I know many designers used to do that with a ceiling colour, rather than a stark white. So little colour that you spend time wondering if you are actually seeing a colour. Hopefully one of the experts will come along and give you a bit more advice on that. I like the idea of black trim. I think instead of a pure black though, I'd consider a charcoal type colour, a really almost black colour. Some to consider BM Ebony slate (2118-30) BM Baby Seal Black (2119-30) BM Witching Hour (2120-30) BM Anchor Gray (2126-30). I think your kitchen looks gorgeous. I like the subway tile with contrasting grout and the floor is really beautiful. Well done....See MoreSame white paint on walls and ceiling or lighten the ceiling paint?
Comments (12)White is only white when light is reflected off the surface. The ceiling has less light being reflected off the white than the walls and the angle of the light is hitting your retna at a different angle. Many people will try to cut white or light paint colors and have the color shift and they do not get the color they expected. I have a can of paint handy that is a BM Satin Advance Base 1 custom color. Bright warm white that was a color match to Devine Icing - one of my favorite whites for trim, cabinets, ceilings. The formula is simple: Y3 (Oxide Yellow) 0x0.75 and W1 (White) 0x31.25 So they added a pinch of Yellow Oxide - a slightly orange yellow and they added a good dose of Titanium White No sense adding a picture of white - the description of the color from an artist pigment manufacturer explains it better than a picture will. Titanium White is known for being bright white, almost bluish, and has excellent opacity and high tinting strength. When mixed with another color, it rapidly lightens the color. The drawback of Titanium White is it can be over-bearing at times, especially when you are just looking to lighten the value a bit and not greatly change the color it"s mixed with. If I cut the pigment by 25% I am going to end up with a color that is darker and grayer than the original color because the main additive is Titanium White which is whiter than the Satin Advance Base 1. To make it lighter / Whiter I actually would need to increase the W1 pigment. and may need to increase the Y3 to combat the blue of the W1. Honestly, I don't know that lightening the white will do anything in your circumstance. No matter how light you make simply white you still will not have light reflecting off the ceiling and will end up with something that appears darker than the walls. This is not always bad - it is expected and appears normal when we walk into a room with all white walls. Our brains compensate for difference in colors based on light and shadows. Personally, If I loved Simply White on the walls I would paint the ceiling in the color, same brand and line of paint and just use flat on the ceiling, eggshell on the walls and satin on the trim....See MoreNeutral off white paints for red oak wood floors, ceiling, and trim.

I especially do not want it in areas where that "day light" , even on dimmers , is not required. Lighting is no different than paint. There is not really a one type fits all . It's my experience that even the wealthiest client will walk around in near darkness, before it occurs to them to turn on a nine hundred dollar LAMP. OR , conversely, someone will flick on recessed from on high.. nearly all the time, forgetting they even OWN a lamp. An attractive and functional lighting plan is layered. It combines led, incandescent, it is high , it is low - as in ambient and task, and it can involve accent lighting in sconces, or picture lights. The weather and season will affect any paint, as will the lighting you would select for the moment and for that particular space. But to say any any kelvin, all the time , is the "answer"? No. It isn't. To me, that is akin to saying your bedroom should be lit as a potential surgical center, your kitchen as a romantic getaway, and your dining room for a tax preparation event . lol. Paint the walls as you tend to USE lighting. No matter your preference as cave dweller or surgeon. Leopards have a tendency to never change "spots"...See Moreoff-white trim: white or off-white ceiling
Comments (8)Thank you, but to be clear, it's not an option to repaint the trim and moulding a different color, because it's the same throughout the house and we're only repainting one room. We're the ones who painted it 17 years ago, and we still have the same color, which is off-white. We'll repaint the trim with the original color so it looks new, but my husband is vehemently against repainting the trim in a different color, so that's not an option. Not worth getting a divorce over, ha ha! So, back to the question, if the moulding is off-white, (cream, even) will the ceiling look weird if it's white? Is it better to have the moulding and the ceiling the same color (off-white)?...See Morelazy_gardens
