I will update this thread periodically as I commence the process of "eradication". I am thinking that I need to pull as many runners/vines off the walls as I can before spraying them. This will keep me from having a problem pulling dried, dead vines later (as suggested by breenthumb). Roundup or other glyphosphate product will be sprayed on the vines after I pull them down from the wall. My intent is to spray the vines and allow them to die before I clip them to the ground and remove them. Spraying the entire plant increase the kill rate by optimizing the absorption of glyphosphate into the plants nutrient transport system. I have been told that this is better than clipping and then spraying/paint brushing herbicide onto new growth that pops up from roots. Spray vines, let vines die, clip vines.....in that order first. Then paint brush new growth as it emerges. Doing in that order is alleged to kill or weaken the roots for a more effective result. Any thoughts on that step by step method? Oh, the Hemlock tree that has been taken over by ivy is going to be cut down as it is one of those cases where someone plants a small tree (how cute they are when little) too close to the house and it grows up causing problems as it encroaches on the house right next to it. If you have found the perfect color in glidden, see if your BM store will match it in an Aura base. add some more phthalo green on the blue side and a few drops of yellow; may need to add back to red, just depends what utc's or machine tints you use. You can mix some pretty high chroma greens with your blues+yellow, but you gotta know which ones to use. Something you may or may not know, but lemon yellow is a cool yellow. The white in the cans of paint is there for your hiding power. It is the opacity of your pastel , muted or lighter bases. Once you get into your deeper bases from a mid 3 and up , you won't have but very little white (titatium dioxide) in the can. Some bases will not have any white. If you have the utc's and your base then do some practice and test with a tester tube and document down to the 10th of a drop on your samples before adding full strength to your paint can. In a lot of BM preview colors they do not use black but very few. Even after your selected color is mixed, it will eventually be summed up from the light that is bounced around in the room.

I've been following your post because this past month, hubby has been preparing me for the dreaded "R" word (relocation). We'd just finally finished our basement and I used COLOR for the first time and I love it. I also just painted our front LR-turned-"library" (light sage). We had all blandish light smoke gray walls throughout, but I was adding in sages, pumpkin "spice", and SW Blonde. I think I'll hold up on my other paint projects in the main living areas and let them remain neutral. Now that I know how to paint, I don't think I'd let one or two bright rooms scare me (if/when house-hunting), but I wouldn't want to have to paint a large area--like several rooms/halls that flow together--soon after moving in, so if there are other houses in the market that would be other than this scenario, they'd have the edge. I just saw in your last post that you live in Durham. Small world--it's the RTP area that we would be relocating to from central IL. I think your area has higher home prices, so that scares me. I'm in my dream home now, I can't stand the thought of leaving.... :-( Ah well. If you have any links to good realtor sites that have pics, etc., in your area, please share! Thanks. Like someone mentioned above, it's time to stop thinking of the current home as "yours" and to distance yourself from it--changing color back to neutral will help with that. When you do this, something about the "energy" of the home changes (weird, I know). I like the LR after Lindy photoshopped it. I also think I would do the kitchen cabinets all the same (not light on top, dark on bottom). What about some "antiquing" of them--in the cracks? Can the kitchen be a different color from the rest of the "fun space"? I have a friend who did her cabinets cream with some glaze in the cracks to antique them and then painted her walls a ruddy color (terra cotta-like). It was gorgeous and did well with the neutral colors of the rest of her rooms, but still gave her some "pop". A good muted orange (since you like that color) is Laura Ashley 'Spice' (at Lowes)--I'm not an orange person but fell in love with this and used it in a basement area and planned on it for my kitchen. premier, the window isn't as small as it looks in the photo I posted. Not really an expert at taking digital photos. budge1, looks like someone found your example - and I like it. I am looking on the interet to find some material I like. Not that I need a sewing project now, but chances of finding the colors I want already made is probably very slim. I think a lot of little things wouldn't be good either - either just one teal or aqua clock or a valance. dekr8 - are those your curtains? Did you make them or do they come already made up? If you made them, did you use a pattern? I really like that idea. I can almost picture some brown and aqua valance hanging from those pegs - I like the use of pegs - different than most valances. The first material, (link posted below) edged in brown would look great on my window I think. DH and I love aqua too. We once went to look at a boat and when we walked up and saw the interior was aqua, we just looked at one another and knew we were going to buy it. This is the first time we have used it in our decorating. I have never bought anything on ebay before, I might try on that first fabric and see how it goes - I have 5 hours to think about it or I could just order one yard - since it is 54 inches wide that is probably all I would need - or I could get two yards and do a couple of pillows for the family room sofa or a table runner for my dark table. Would too much coordination with the same material be too hokey?
