With the white cabinetry and trim, white would probably be a good, and safe, choice, leaving the top of the buffet/drawer fronts/wood tone. I'm seeing black wrought iron, and think black would also be a good choice, again leaving some wood. I would also paint the drawer pulls/picture frame black, bringing more of it into the room to tie things together.

I like the idea of the Olive Branch for the DR, but i'm not too crazy about the color orange. ;o)

The original green did look nice. Maybe go a little more kelly green? Or perhaps a darker version of the K color?

Or do you think the orange will grow on you? Maybe pull some more orange into the K in accessories?

What about a pretty coral color??

I did like the green, but I think you need a deeper green. From what I can tell on screen I think olive branch is too muddy. I think you need a green with yellow undertones if you go with green.
What about a nice chocolate color, I see your countertops have browns. Then you could use an accent color of your choice, maybe green.

I love the green especially with the gold. Here's some samples, of course they'll probably look different in real life and I had to use SW, but you can always color match.

I have Olive Branch in my living room that has oak trim that is on the orange side. I don't know if I like it or not. We just painted it about one month ago. It seems rather cool to me instead of warm and inviting.

I have Wilmington Tan in my foyer and music room and I absolutely LOVE that color with my rather orangish trim. It is warm and lovely with the wood which appears to be the same color as your cabinet.

I'm really grateful you posted as I am currently trying to put a paint colour behind some maple furniture and am wondering about orange tones. It's very interesting to see how different the wood looks with different colours behind it, yellow, greenish yellow, orange.

I don't mind your original green and I like your current muted orange. The glaring orange was a bit much.

But here's the thing: There are so many elements in this vignette that I don't think you can just match a paint to the wood. There are things that don't quite go with the wood, such as your counter top. And then there is the fact that you have a bone kitchen and white panelling and moulding. For me that's creating some conflict. Not only do the two neutrals not seem to go, but also they dictate different colour schemes in the two rooms.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing or that you need to change it, since it's your house... just pointing it out as something that might be making the decision-making difficult. (and for the record I wouldn't paint all the panelling that bone colour... for a couple of reasons). So depending on which element you look at in two rooms, you're being pointed to a different palette.

If what you're looking for is a harmonious look around panelling that is going to stay white, your current orange and your maple DR set seem quite harmonious to me while still having enough contrast that the hutch looks good against the wall, and the kitchen paint colour works with it too. But if you want to change the DR paint, I'd focus on something that works well with the white, not just the wood.

As for other choices photoshopped above, with due respect for the work done I don't like any of those better than what you have, least of all the brown. It brings out the yellow in the wood.

I love your archway and how nice to have that wainscoting and spaciousness in your dining room.

I do like orange, and my kitchen paint looks like your bright orange photos, but my thought for the dining room would be a darker olivey green (the Sturdy Brown looks like that kind of browny-green on my monitor and looks good to me)or a brown with green, not red, tones to it.

I love BM's Antique Jade - tried to put your pic in their viewer but resolution was too low. Maybe you can try?

Wenge is interesting, but I don't care for the others. Turtle is too yellow.

I love the orange and bet it is beautiful at night. Just changing the drapes might be enough of a change. I think a warm brown would be nice too. Something that really glows in the lamp/candle light. The deeper green looks nice with the wood and kitchen, but lacks the warmth that makes dining rooms so comfortable.

I like the orange. You could try a glaze over it, to try and tone it down a little.

Wow, that looks a lot lighter in the pic than it does on my walls. Haley' what do you think about the Backwoods? Still a little too yellow, but heading in the right direction? Maybe try Deep Sea?

Lukki - what was so helpful with the photoshop is that it made me see colors I normally would not have even thought of which is really cool (wenge and kona for example)so I feel like it has opened up more possiblities for me..thank you - I love seeing those.

Finally we got a SW store in my city! So this morning I went and almost cleared out their swatches and I will browse through those this afternoon as I am so used to only having BM colors to choose from (which I do love).

Ajsmama : (I'm an "AJSMAMA" too to my 5 year old son AJ :) The Antique Jade is nice and I like the way your dining set (similiar color to mine) really pops agnaist the color. I love it..looks so nice.

Another new thought process thanks to this thread is I am wondering what a light color would look like? I normally paint mid-tones through my home (LR Decatur Buff, Hallway BM Dijon, kitchen BM Ginger Root,) so this would be new but looking at the color Kona it is nice.

Thanks haley I've got 2 AJs, a DS and DD. I went Thornton Sage through most of the house b/c I was afraid A. Jade would be too dark, just did that one wall in the DR and the whole LR in it. I'd like to paint the other "standalone" wall in the DR in the Jade too, but have to get DH and a friend to move the china cabinet. Maybe if I promise to repaint the study at the same time LOL (DH really likes the Jade).

For your room I'd go darker, the mockup lukki did it looks so light - unless your DR is dark? But the best thing to do is try it (though I'd get a paint chip and hold it up against your Ginger Root 1st). A darker color like Backwoods may look better. Funny, I searched BM's site for Ginger Root and couldn't find it.

Haley, you're very welcome! So glad it helped even though the lighter colors don't work so well. BTW, now that you have a store near you, I'll add that the reason I use SW a lot for color comparisons is because at 15.00 a pop, their fan decks are affordable! It's so nice to have it handy!
