This happened this week when I was getting groceries. I had just opened my trunk to put my groceries in. I'm probably slower doing it than a lot of people. As soon as I got there, there was a car pulled up, waiting for my parking spot. Not only did my sister and I have to unload our full carts, but then had to return them to a corral. After about 5 minutes, they finally went elsewhere.

Employees refusing to stop this, I know, they are not allowed to say anything.
People who insists on taking their pets everywhere regardless on weather or how long they will be in the car. Yes, I have had pets.

Oh, and pets IN grocery stores! I saw a lot of 'purse-size' dogs in stores on Maui -- including Safeway and Costco. OK, probably no worse than babies in diapers, but...yuck. This dog-as-child-substitute has gone too far.

i know why, as they are retired and elder, so won't say a word...

arghhhh, when going to a restaurant.

I'd much rather hear an echoed "Thank you" than what I seem to always hear. It seems like everyone around here, including store clerks respond with "No Problem".

Here's one of my biggest ones: people who spit mucus and phlem on the sidewalk!

Another biggie: people who don't pick up after their dog/s finish their business!

People who litter; people who leave flyers on my front porch (to me that's like trespassing).

But ... there's an advantage.

If you keep a peeve as a pet - no food to buy.

And no picking up after.

Won't go into the issue of no need for walkies ... for we all need the exercise, no?

Being as I'm more or less in love with the world this (morning)/afternoon ... no pet peeves that I can think of at the moment.

Actually, if I say 'thank you', I'm okay with any sort of polite resonse. Sometimes, as I'm thanking a cashier for taking care of my sale, they're thanking me for shopping there. No biggie. And "no problem"? Doesn't bother me--it's meant to imply that the thanker was glad to help, and didn't see the transaction as a burden. Nothing wrong with that, really.

Today? I'd have to say my biggest peeve is Kurt Nurmi's total obsession with sex. It's not important, and not a factor in what he's supposed to be doing. Get off the topic

I'm one of the "no problem" people! I will say "you're welcome" if it's a big thing or a formal event or if i'm in a certain mood, but if someone thanks me for holding a door or something similar that takes no effort on my part, I just say "no problem." I've never really thought of it as being impolite.

"You're welcome" seems more formal and deserving of a bigger effort for me. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's a generational thing.

One of my biggest pet peeves are people who yawn noisily! It's very possible to yawn without making a sound. I don't understand the added dramatics.

Yes, I believe it is a generational thing. The 'younger generations' have either not been taught or have forgotten that the polite and correct response to Thank you is You're welcome.

I don't necessarily agree with the age thing.

In my 60's I definitely don't consider myself of the 'younger generation', yet I've been known to say 'no problem'. It's a way of conveying that the act you're being thanked for wasn't an inconvenience. Since I don't like to inconvenience others, it's important to me to make sure others know they haven't put me out, either. Perhaps the phrase is used differently in your realm, but to me it's just as appropriate and polite as 'you're welcome'--just 2 ways of saying the same thing pretty much.

I never thought "you're welcome" was formal in any way at all. I even tell Harry that when he thanks me for dinner. In fact, now that he's been around me a few decades, he says it to me when I thank him.

I don't agree that not saying "you're welcome" is due to ignorance or forgetfulness. Correct and proper manners are completely subjective given different backgrounds and cultures, and socially acceptable mannerisms constantly evolve over time. What is considered proper and acceptable today would be ghastly a century or two ago, such as children talking at the dinner table or women wearing pants and debating politics. So while younger generations may have different mannerisms, that doesn't make it wrong or a product of not being raised properly. Things change.

I also say iterations of yup, mmmhmm, my pleasure, you're very welcome, anytime, don't mention it, and I'm happy to have helped. I will also say "thank you" in reply if we perform a mutual service, like me purchasing groceries and the checker scanning and bagging my items. She thanks me for shopping there, I thank her for helping me. I think that is far more polite than just saying "you're welcome" because I am acknowledging and thanking her for her efforts.

People pulling in to my lane, at a red light, and then getting impatient that I can not ride (my bicycle) fast across the intersection, or fast in general. 20 miles IS FAST! :)

Coming out of a store to find (or not find until I drive away) a flyer placed between my windshield wiper and windshield. That means they had to raise my wiper to place the flyer. DO NOT TOUCH MY CAR! And I don't want your garbage on my car. If that's not illegal, it should be.

I was always getting on to my boss for not saying "you're welcome", when customers or his friends would thank him for something. They would keep going on and on about it, thanking him over and over and I told him if he would just finally say it, they'd feel better and it would be done.

I think saying "no problem" when you do something for someone, belittles the act that you performed for them- it's like you're saying it was inconsequential and that you didn't go out of your way at all when it might have really meant something to them.

My pet peeve- hmmmm. Oh, I know! People who make a lot of noise in a house or motel/hotel when they KNOW someone is trying to sleep! I creep around like a mouse when someone is sleeping and OTHER people put on boots and throw chunks of firewood into the wood box (which abuts the bedroom) and talks to the pets in his outside voice!

Listening to people on their cell phones - if you need to speak to someone keep your voice down, your life is not only not my business but it's generally pretty boring too.

My pet peeve: people who don't pull ahead in the drive through line. They leave over a half a car length between them and the car in front of them. Then those behind them can't quite pull up to the speaker or the money window.

My one sister and I have an ongoing joke about this. It happened to me about 2 weeks ago, I sent a txt to my sis "OMG I just got freakin' CROP DUSTED" she replied that I made her spit her tea out hahaha.

I know, I know, juvenile bathroom humor. Too funny.

"No problem " registers as "...whatever..." to me. It really gets on my nerves.

I had to ask Robert if I had a pet peeve, lol. I tend to be pretty laid back and non judgemental. I finally came up with any local commercials featuring pets, children, cheerleaders, clowns, or men in big stupid cowboy hats (selling used cars) .

Women texting in front of the mirror in the gym. Obviously they aren't using the mirror but they're clueless just texting away and taking up space. Move yourself and sit down or stand out of the way. .

Cashiers who hand your your change back, bills first and coins on top. Coins always fall off the bills. I always retract my hand quickly and say "coins first please." My kids roll their eyes. Lolol! But they always cheer with me when it's handed to me coins first without me asking.

Forget about not counting your money back. No one knows how to do that any more.

Oh I've given up on watching while he is cross examining anyone. He puts me to sleep. No wonder the prosecutor seems so 'wired' once he 'gets his chance' to ask some questions. I almost wonder if Kurt Nurmi might be considered incompetent, since I imagine he is turning a lot of people off, including the jurors.

Hmmmm, o.k., let me describe it "delicately". When someone "breaks wind" in the aisle of a store and you walk right into it. You got "crop dusted". UGH, it's so bad. And then I start to laugh and think of my sister, because she gets sooo mad.

Not sure how we even came up with that name for it but that's what we call it. lol

patti43, people responding "thank you!" to a thanks is also a pet peeve of mine. Every four weeks I meet a new batch of international students and when they say "thank you" to me I make sure I say "You're welcome". I've seen them at other places on campus looking a little confused when a cashier or someone responds with thank you to a thank you. Confusion! It may sound silly to some but to you and me it sounds sloppy, n'est ce pas?

Getting beeped at when I'm driving, especially when I don't gun my engine the moment the light turns green. I still like to look left.

Mine is when you're at a restaurant and pay the bill and the server says, "Do you need change?" I just find that in poor taste.

Left lane drivers--inconvenient for other drivers and dangerous as well.

I see the "thank-you...thank-you" as being reciprocally polite. Thank you for coming to dinner, thank you for having me to dinner or whatever. The no problem, my pleasure, etc. I don't see it as an issue. It's not a belittlement but simply saying it wasn't an imposition on them to do you a favor.

As for leaving a bit of space between cars, I do that all the time. Learned my lesson years ago. Getting stuck behind someone at a light when their car stalls, or they decide to try to turn or something, or in a line if it takes way too long at least I can turn and go around them. If someone is in such a hurry to place their order behind me, go inside. You won't get your order any faster, they still have to wait for it to be prepared and all the cars to go through. You won't get anywhere any faster. It's an oxymoron to call that stuff "fast" food anyway.

My peeves: People that go so overboard with abbreviations. My daughter is more than a bra size to me and I won't insult her by so calling. Then there's the "you get what you pay for" stupidity. A tautological phrase to start with and even the intended meaning isn't true very often. And of course "We've always done it this way."

I'm not sure which is worse, getting "cropdusted" naturally or from the old women who marinate themselves in the jug perfume, hairspray, multiple deodorants, shampoo/conditioner, the laundry detergent/softener stench soaked into their clothes and their onion breath usually can be smelled a couple aisles away.

You're going to your car in a half empty parking lot. As you are about to get in it to leave a car stops right in front of yours to let a passenger out. They can't pull into one of the empty parking spaces!!!!!

Same thing only they stop and sit there waiting for someone to come out of the building.

I am with Kayjones...hate when people spit on the sidewalk.

I hate it when I'm turning to get to a parking spot and along comes this bunch of lollygaggers, walking four or five abreast, just oblivious to the world. Oh, I know they have the right of way, but they can be so righteous!!

One of mine is shopping carts left in parking spaces. Are you really that lazy that you cannot roll the cart to a designated area? I especially find it objectionable when I see people dressed in gym clothes do it.

How about people who walk right by shopping carts left in the parking lot and don't take one into the store.
They walk right by and then take a cart from inside the store...DUH .

I pick up my grandson every day from elemetary school in a small parking lot - there is only enough room for two lines of cars to go at one time - the right lane is used by people leaving their children off or picking them up - the left lane is for cars coming and going - I hate it when someone in the left lane will park their car to get their child out of the classroom - the crossing guard won't say anythng - I (on the other hand) will get out of my car and tell them to move it! I am pointing my finger at them and they move it... lol my blood pressure is sky high at that point - now, I take some sort of hand work and park by the marked crossing the the guards will stop traffic for me to leave...

Slow driving, gawking tourists that won't pull over.

There. I said it. It is no secret I live in Lancaster County PA. Huge Amish population. And yes, it's beautiful country.

But people really do live and work here. Sometimes I am on my way to work, or the grocery store or getiing lunch. Same as you when you are not on vacation.
At minimum please drive the speed limit...or get over.

It's okay to pass a buggy at a double yellow line. It's also well accepted to pass if the oncoming lane has a wide berm - they'll get over!

Just please keep moving!

I have several....so many people have no respect for others.

One of them is grocery shopping... when someone sits their grocery cart on one side of the aisle and step over to the other side to look on the other. sometimes standing there for several minutes. People will be waiting on both sides and can't get through.
I always keep my basket with me.

At the gym, I get so annoyed at people sitting on the machines talking or staring into space ( usually older men). Or sitting on a machine and texting....younger ones. Women can be guilty of not being thoughtful of others, too, it mostly it's men I see doing the above. It's annoying when I'm there to work out and get it over with.

Some people seem to have a sense of entitlement and/or no peripheral vision. That would cover the 'road blockers' whether on the road or in a store or on a sidewalk. Same for the people bellowing into a cell phone in a public place or gabbing away while failing to Just DRIVE!

"No problem" makes me want to retract my thanks. "You're welcome" or "I'm glad I could be of help" or "My pleasure" indicate that the service was cheerfully given. "No problem" sounds more like, "It was no skin off my nose". (Please make eye contact when you speak, too.)

Some of this may be a cultural thing. Americans tend to smile and acknowledge even strangers more than people in some cultures -- where you only acknowledge people you know. (At least *I* was raised to present a pleasant face in public; maybe it's passe now?)
