That would make me crazy too!!! Go to Radio Shack, buy a battery tester and prove to him that they are really dead.

Throw the deads ones away. I can tell you from experience that accidentally mixing new and old batteries in something can ruin it. I did that in a expensive camera flash.

Aaah! Don't throw them away. You need to recycle them. The chemicles in batteries are harmful and shouldn't be thrown in the trash. I have a hard time finding places to recycle them, but I've been lucky that my office does so. Also, my grandparents live in a retirement community and they recycle there (lots of hearing aid batteries to dispose of).

Cousin told me exactly what Lydia said. I think I would go nuts, too. He should at least store them separately from the unused ones. I often find that switching the batteries' positions will squeeze more juice from them. But, once they die out again, I throw them away. Shame on me, NaughtyKitty. LOL

i send my used batteries to work as dh's company recycles...

We keep a battery tester in with our supply of batteries. We had some rechargeable batteries, they don't work that well, and eventually they refuse to take a charge.

I all ways put a small label on them when I install them, with the date installed. That way I know which ones are used.

We use mostly rechargeable batteries, so I don't have to worry about partially used ones sitting around. But when I do change regular AA batteries that might not be completely used up, I put them in a clock to run them down. They will often last quite a while in a clock.

The ones that are completely spent get put in a margarine tub that now says "I Can't Believe It's Not Batteries!" to which I've added "for recycling." Now getting DH to actually take them to the recycling center, that's another matter.

Our smoke alarms are all hard wired, so no worries about that.

A battery tester would e handy. Also, labeling a used one would help too. So would just throwing away or recycle an old one be helpful. I'm sure I'll feel better in a few days, thanks, Uxorial. Dottie

Well we have a tester and my DH does the same darn thing. Seems he thinks they will be good enough for a short stint in another appliance....like a travel clock. Oh good, battery dies, alarm doesn't work, we miss flight. Need I say more. Budster who is sitting facing a jar of "useless" batteries with just a hint of juice left....

Tell your hubs that if he is so certain that there is life left in the batteries that there isn't a need to change them -- he should leave them in his remote until it simply won't work any longer, and THEN change the batteries and put the old ones in whatever place you designate for old batteries that need to be specially disposed of.

When I install new batteries in anything, I paint a strip on them with nailpolish. That way, my other half can put them wherever he wants wants to...hehehe...but I know that they are used if he puts them in the new pile.

All Best Buy stores have a battery recycling center, just in case anyone wanted to know!

Bob does the same thing as Dottie's dh. It drives me nuts too. He has hearing aids and dozens of those tiny batteries. They are scattered every where. When I see them on the floor where he dropped them I ask him if they are any good. His reply is " they might be ". I wish he would at least pick them up. I'm afraid the dogs will find them before I do.

Get hubs a battery tester for Christmas.

Another wrapped gift with an old margarine or other container, labelled "Batteries: Maybe some use left - try in my remote (or a clock)".

Then put out another margarine (or other type of) container labelled "Batteries: Dead ... for recycling".

We get quite a number of items packed in some of those hard-to-open heavy plastic packages. Put a string through one corner of one of those and label it "Battery: Maybe Useful", and hang it around your Hub's neck someday, saying that the first time that you find a mostly-used battery mixed in with the new ones ...

... that it gets put into that package and you'll hang it around his neck.

That should help get the situation in slightly better order.

Or maybe you - or some other folks here - can come up with a better solution.

Sometimes I think men are from a different planet, they sure don't think the same way we do.

Our recycle center accepts batteries. I just save 'em up for the next trip.
