Newbie here, help me understand timing

I have been lurking and gathering a wealth of knowledge and am enormously appreciative of the sharing of info here. Thank you all so much!

I am in the planning stages working w/ a KD. I told her that I wanted/needed the project to be completed before this summer ('10). My project consists of removal of existing cabinetry and countertops as well as some ceiling due to previous water damage. I am keeping my oak floor as well as basic footprint of current layout. My project consists of new cabinetry, countertops, a vented hood and perhaps an eating island design.

So this brings me to my question. What is a reasonable amount of time for her to come up w/ a design? Once she gives me a working plan I will then need to bid it out to a few different GC's before anything can get going. As Feb is ticking away, is a pre-summer finish possible?
