DD is having her first holiday meal in her first place (she bought a condo last summer). Usually I have Easter for the extended family at my house.

So far, she's got me making: the ham, the mac and cheese, the Tiramisu. Then every hour or so, she calls with another item she needs to borrow. Folding chairs. A knife for the Angelfood cake. A couple of sticks of butter. Oh, I can't get to my folding table, could you bring yours? Could you make hardcooked eggs for the salad?-I don't know how. I didn't buy enough frozen biscuits (I have some in the freezer, I'll bring them) How about ice, soda, iced tea...

LOL--think I should turn the phone off? DH asked if we're going to need to take both the SUV AND the pickup (I don't THINK so, but maybe....).

I'm heading to the shower and the phone had better not ring while I'm in there relaxing--LOL LOL!!

that last night, she called in a panic--the bulb in the light over her dining room table had blown, and she couldn't reach to fix it, so DH loaded up an assortment of bulbs (not knowing what kind it was), a flashlight and a couple of ladders (not knowing which one he'd need--LOL)

Hey...she's just getting her first lesson in holiday dinners. All those things she needs make a great gift list to choose from for the next couple fo years :)

Hi Mike, I wish the big city near us would do a little decaying. haha! I think a certain suburb north of it is considered to be the fastest growing area in the country. Lots of beautiful rich farmland now filled with wall to wall houses, malls, highways. It makes me cry. I do have trouble living in the human world. So much of human development (economic and otherwise) is all about distancing ourselves from the animal world. We constantly expect "more" from us, than just being animals, and that's where all the problems and disconnects arise from. I've always thought I was a tree whose spirit got accidentally put into a human's body! It leads to alot of internal confusion for me! I think if people would try to view themselves as part of the circle, then they will be less likely to destroy life for everything else. Its a real balancing act though....especially if we are raised in a culture that puts superiority and domination as the only way to live. I realize that plants and animals do the same thing, but for some reason, it all gets balanced out. Humans (at least in more advanced countries), don't seem to have any checks and balances. Talk about decay.......my brain just isn't what it used to be, and I may not even be making any sense! Speaking of balance.........I need to figure out how to balance all those snails that are eating my water lily pads! Nice talking to you, and never worry about rambling. Its one of my favorite things. :)

Ummm, I'm just seeing this, wonder if you've moved your plant yet..... I'd go with the cow, Neil...compost (aged plant remains) or composted manure. Rhubarb is happy in slightly to moderately acid soil. The ph of most mushroom compost is more alkaline, most has lime added. If you are going to use the mushroom product, it's better spaded into the soil in small amounts or use it for things liking a more neutral to sweeter soil, not the acid lovers. (little tip on the mushroom compost, it can be high in salts too and may damage tender seedlings of any kind if used in too high quantity even spaded into a bed. it's not a bad product, you just need to be more careful with it than say, composted steer manure) One of the very few things I pick up at Home Depot is composted steer manure blend (aged manure, aged wood chips). I just now finished putting a bag as a top dressing around 4 Pia hydrangeas...was dry enough to make it easy to work with, no odor, no rocks. Price has gone up, I think it was $1.12/ cu. foot bag, used to be 98 cents. :-)

Glo - Thanks for reassuring me! I hope your move is awesome! My husband has wanted to move us to Colorado for years and hasn't managed to quite convince me yet, although I think it's absolutely wonderful there. LOL So, Winter Solstice is the same everywhere? (LOL)... I guess you're seeing how little I know... Nancy - Thanks for the tip! I am gonna have to watch the lead hand myself as I way oversowed my cantaloupes this fall. The poor babies are fighting each other and giving me 2 to 5 inches fruits that don't look like they're EVER going to full ripen. I will be much more careful in the future. I'll try to not get TOO excited when I go to plant. LOL Carrie - Wow! That's some really good info. That's exactly the kind of thing I was worried about. I'm grateful for the heads up. Liz - LIZ!!! Hey, girl! Fancy meeting you here and there and now here! hee hee... The whole last paragraph of what you wrote is exactly what is concerning me. I know that I personally wear shorts through-out almost the whole winter except for those few crazy days that we see. 50's or what have you is not cold to me... We do get the occasional freeze, but then a week or two later at most you could have a 70+ degree high! All this in the same few days / weeks / months... it's SO crazy! Hi Baroo2u56, i think gardegal may have it right iv'e looked up the two suggestions she gave and it looks most like the baptista, if you google baptista plant images it looks the same as a few of them but of course there are different types of baptista but it looks like my mystery plant is one of them!!! finally! Thanks again Gardengal for saving me lots of time staring at my computer, much appreciated

That is hilarious - have you considered just suggesting that you just hold the dinner at your place and call it 'her' dinner...lol. Sure would save a lot of lugging....

Oh, gosh. And it's so much trouble to cook food AND transport it somewhere else, too.

Um, she doesn't know how to hard boil an egg? Isn't that pretty basic? lol I'm sorry, that one cracked me up. Get it? Cracked... rofl

That is hilarious! I'm sure my mom felt the same way when sis and I first started trying to host holiday gatherings. It never dawned on me that 6 phone calls the night before, or asking her to bring 12 folding chairs, may have been a bit excessive, LOL. She loves it now, 25 years later -- all she has to do is show up with a sweet potato pie!(hers are still the best)

I'm not really complaining, of course. It's kind of fun to be invited to DDs house for a holiday.

And actually, I only got one more call after I took my shower--and it was to leave some stuff home that I was bringing for my niece (sadly, she's too sick to come today).

DH is out there, right now, trying to figure out how to jigsaw all the components into the SUV. Now as long as I don't forget to grab those biscuits out of the freezer...

Well, off to get dressed, and we'll be leaving in a few minutes.

Azzalea - You've probably left by now but I hope your 'daughter's' first Easter dinner is a success. And I can't decide if I should hope she moved far enough away that you won't have to run back home to get those biscuits or hope that she's close??
