Thank you for the links! I just painted the room that blue, after switching from a warm color palette to a cool one (the whole room was brown and sage, and way too dark for me suddenly!) I know the TV cabinet needs to go. It was a knotty pine Ikea one that I painted myself and did the doors to mask the video games behind it. I really want to put something narrower and longer there, like a buffet, but I'm still looking. I looked so long for chairs to go with that couch. I sat on a million chairs and read a million reviews, but at the end of the day, wanted something that was comfy and family friendly. The white chair is now the one everybody fights over at TV time! I love that the slipcovers are washable. I am considering dying the piping to 'dress it up' a little, and want to find a colorful throw to make it not so casual. The slate gray pillows were my feeble attempt to tie it into the couch color. I do want to put some sort of plants in there; maybe when the baby is a little older. I hesitate also because I kill every green thing I've ever had. The other sort of obstacle is that the other side of this room is my dining room. Or dining 'area' I guess. It is all one big room and a pain to decorate/arrange.

Okay, this might not work at all, but thinking outside of the box... what if you put the game table and chairs right smack in the middle of the room in front of the fireplace? Then moved the sofa to the corner where the low bookshelf is now and angled it so it is facing towards the middle of the room (with the window next to the fireplace behind it). Move the bookshelf under the kitchen pass-through and either flank it with large plants or eventually find a longer bookshelf to take up more of the space. This way, you break up the two adjoining rooms' sitting areas with the table, and allow more direct conversation between the kitchen and the goings-on in the living room...

I am also glad you moved the sideboard! Funny how small things make a difference. I agree that a rug would be nice. I googled Craftsman rug and there is a lot out there, at a variety of prices. I have found rugs very difficult to buy online. The colors never seem accurate -- usually duller IRL. I think the New Castle Marigold by Company C is very sweet, but maybe it's too casual for you. The colors might work though. Tough to tell. I am not loving the stained glass piece on the wall. Somehow, I just want to see something lighter and brighter there, with more contrast to the wall color. White mats would look to me, to go with the woodwork. And three of something, hung in a row. Maybe woodcuts or Japanese blockprints or something....clean and simple, just like your style! Would you consider painting the inside of the built-ins? Or maybe lining the backs with an interesting, heavy weight paper to bring some light and interest there? You could use some 3M removable adhesive squares and play with some craftsman style papers. Or just a solid color. I have a dark Chippendale style glass front bookcase I plan to line with some Italian marbleized paper, just because it seems so dark to me. If I were to paint your cabs, I would go with a pale creamy gold pulled from the light fixture. The way the light is streaming into the room in the first pics makes me think that something glass and sparkly would look nice there. Do you use this DR? Would a big glass bowl be a PITA at mealtimes? Something along the lines of the glass bowls with apples, only bigger. I'd put a few pieces of McCoy on the sideboard. Thanks everyone for the pictures; they are all beautiful. I ordered the one from Overstock last night. Parma, I also saw that one in Shades of Light - I am just amazed at the price difference between Overstock and Garnet Hill and Shades of Light. I guess Overstock is going to be my new BFF. I just hope I am not disappointed in the black border, but I am trying to tie it in with black floral pillows. I keep going back and looking at it and it seems to take away from the "earthiness". But, every room needs a little black I guess. One more question, what is the best type of pad for the flat weaves?? Tuesday
