Good luck for Monday, Gil. My middle son shares his birthday with my DH and he was born on DH's 30th. I've got a picture taken in the hospital of him holding the baby with a cake in front of them. My MIL could not figure out why I wanted her to pick up 2 "zeros" and 1 "three" for candles. I placed them so it read "30" and "0" on the cake. One of those very special Kodak moments in our family. I envy all of you now in this digital camera age. It used to be such a pain to go get film and get them developed. My youngest son doesn't have near enough pictures taken of him as he was growing up. What a treat to be able to take them instantly and to get so many "perfect" and candid shots all of the time. Wow. Am I showing my age!! Shauna

Dr. Phil has a lot of good books and very easy to read and understand. I would try to check on some of them. I have a few but they are on a different topic. She should try to meet new people at church or other functions to stay busy and make new friends, but I would imagine it is hard to leave everyone especially family.Good luck.

Technically, I didn't "read" Jaycee's book. I listened to the audiobook, read by Jaycee. I think that made it even better for me. I know Nancy and Phillip Garrido personally (worked with them at the convalescent hospital for quite a few years, but haven't seen them in more than 10 years now) and it still amazes and sickens me that I could know these people and not really know them at all. It was kind of weird though, when Jaycee quotes Phillip or Nancy, I could actually "hear" their voices saying those words. It's difficult to say that I enjoyed the book or that it was a good book, because what happened was truly horrible, but it did hold me riveted. And I read Room: a novel a couple of months ago, because it reminded me of the DuGard case in a lot of ways. I really liked it, too. See, I can say "like", because it was fiction, LOL. I also recently finished reading Water for Elephants and loved it.

I just finished A Round-Heeled Woman, a memoir. I wouldn't exactly recommend it, although I did finish it, so at least it held my interest. The author is intelligent, and her writing is often clever. But I disliked her more and more as the book went on (so self-absorbed, so lacking in compassion, such a bad mother), and I was wildly uncomfortable with her "love" life--not on any moral grounds, but because I couldn't relate in any way to her behavior, and thought most of the choices she made were more than a little nuts.
