I'm checking to see about Angel Eyes, so far it is not listed as having any sports, so I must go another direction for it. But Guardian Angel originated as a sport of Blue Angel. Then GA has 6 sports of its own, including Fallen Angel, American Blue Guardian, Luc's Birthday, and Fire & Brimstone. It's other sport, American Angel, sported one of its own, called American Angel's Fire. (Info from MyHostas.be/sports/index ) Then, checking Blue Angel, I discover that Angel Eyes is another sport of it, just like Guardian Angel is. Quoting from the description MyHostas gives of this plant, first sentence says: "This is a white centered form of 'Blue Angel', similar to and possibly identical to the recently registered 'Guardian Angel'." You can go to the website and read the rest of the info there. So it seems you are keeping it all in the family with your new selection. Perhaps you can give it a couple of years and see whether they are identical or not. Under Guardian Angel, followed from Blue Angel link, it gives another sport, Comanche, for GA. It also lists that American Angel (VanWade) is a "superior" version of GA and its color holds true all season. Said to be a Large hosta. But I recommend you look up and read all about it. Great idea and great looking hosts Don. GA has been a great grower for me, just like it has for you Wish I had taken pics each year to see its progression....but mine is older than digital camera's, I might have some cave drawings of its early years though.

Hostatakeover, that is a beautiful specimen! Sally, I've read that when mature, only the newest flush of leaves of GA have the waviness. However, Hostatakeover's picture is certainly an exception to that. If it makes you feel better, here is what mine looked like last year...barely any colour, or ripples. Looked nice but not what I expected. Someone pointed out that occasionally, GA just doesn't colour up well so I just accepted that reasoning. (Have not synched my devices, sorry. I'll post photo shortly.) This was last July. Mine is a division from a mature one and is coming up year three now. Today's shot..

I have one on my fence that is 8/9 years old. The thorns are huge and painful...Mine MGA stretches 20 feet in each directions, it's very healthy and the flowers are lovely. Huge flush in the spring and scattered blooms thereafter. It took a good 3 years to get going, mine survive with occasional summer water and no fertilizer. It gets sun mostly of the day. I am in costal SoCal, hope this help, good luck!
