Bathing Suit Sewing/craft Help!

My DD(6) wants a High School Musical bathing suit. She does not like the one at the Disney store so i thought i could sort of make my own. Sort of. I found a swim suit at Sears that she loves. Now all i need to do is add the letters HSM on the top. How should i go about doing this? I know i can't iron on because of the fabric. I was considering stenciling the letters or sewing on some sort of beads. Keep in mind that she will swim in chlorine water which may fade some colors or fabrics. What is the best way to add the letters? What would last as she swims in chlorine? Thanks in advance!

I am quite sure that the specs OTT builds their lights for for Joanns and other big box stores are different than the specs they use for lighting stores and independent stores. I have an OTT light floor lamp purchased from Eunice Farmer Fabrics in St Louis several years ago that performs very well, except for a design flaw that makes the frame fragile at the extension rod - and OTT has replaced this for me twice, once when I broke it by putting too much tension on it, once when my son did the same thing. The light is good and the lamp is attractive. (They discontinued the design a long time ago). At the time I was working at that store, (my post retirement "fun job") and a shipment came in that OTT immediately recalled saying that wasn't supposed to be our stock, that it was meant for Joanns and was built to a different spec to sell at a different price point. I recently bought a tabletop OTT light from a big box store and I have to say the quality is far inferior. The casing material is cheap and the screw that holds the lamp part up horizontal to the table constantly comes loose and the light part sags. I look forward to seeing what other lighting might be suggested, as I too am going to be in the market for some sewing lighting when our new build is finished.

Thanks for posting this info StarCraft. I went with Cifial's Highlands wall mount faucet and shower trim (Hansgrohe hand shower) and couldn't be happier with the combination of quality, value and style. I had to defend my decision with nearly every bath showroom salesperson I met. But thanks to your research that was easy!

I like this arrangement better. And yes, how does it feel for you? Does this new arrangement function better for you? I do agree with 2pups4me that the tall dresser looks squished in that corner. What do you want to tackle next? Nightstands and lamps? Are you sticking with your bedding or are you planning to buy new bedding? How about curtains? (I think they should go all the way to the floor). And art for the walls. And new paint color? If you are doing all these, probably best to have an overall plan so everything is coordinated. First question you need to answer: how do I want this room to feel? Example: warm and cozy, light and airy, ...?

Just from thinking of swimsuit fabric I'd say applique in a nylon type fabric, or they do have fabric markers in Walmart.

Sorry no! It is a 2 piece ocean blue suit. It is trimmed in red. Im sure the fabric is nylon/spandex mix. The colors resemble High School Musical 2. I would like to add the HSM letters to the top. This would limit how big the letters could be. I dont really want anything on her behind. She is only 6. I somehow get these great ideas in my head but then i struggle to put it together.

What about paint? You could stencil the letters on using fabric paint or regular acrylic paints with fabric medium blended in.

Would the paint hold up in chlorine water?

Do you have a friend with an embroidery machine? I have a friend that will embroider anything for us for $5. Maybe you can find someone that can do the same.

It sounds very cute.

Well, I know when I get paint on my clothes accidently, it's really impossible to get off! Try it, stencil it on an old suit or something, heat set the paint (you'll have to use a pressing cloth so you don't melt your fabric) and then swish it around in a sink of chorinated water for a while after it's really set and see what happens.

LOL! flamingo!

I will see what it will cost to have it embroidered. This way if they ruin it i cant blame myself.LOL! Otherwise i will try painting. Luckily i have a few old suits to practice on first. Thanks for all the help!

I wouldn't use an embroidery machine or such. Swimsuits have so much stretch, I think it would ruin it. Ask the person who does it though. They might have a way. They will either know if they can do it - or tell you not to.

How about a HSM coverup? Or maybe some decorated Flip-flops?

Nice idea iowagirl!

She is having a HSM party in May. I would like to add the flip flops and cover up to my craft list. She then can wear the flip flops at ther party.
