My son just turned 1 and he goes through kind of the same thing. My daughter who is 3 was always very calm baby and just seemed to 'get it'. She walked at 10 months and said 5 words by the time she was 1. My son didn't even attempt to crawl until he was 9 months old and now he is no where near walking. He only says mama. He gets frusterated very easily and will just sort of cry all day long. I think it's just the way he is. He needs a little more assurance and for me to speak soothingly as he tries something new. He just sort of short circuits and freaks out if he can't fit the ball into his drop and roar dinosaur or if I stand him up and try to let go he shakes and screams and lunges his little body at me. He is just a tightly wound little kid and I have just learned not to get annoyed, take a deep breath, count to ten and try to be understanding and give him what he needs. Since he is my second, I don't worry that I did something wrong to make him this way because my dd was the perfect child. It's him not me, but I still have to change my parenting style to fit his high strung little personality. And about not wanting to go on his tummy, there could be something wrong like he is in pain and if your instinct is telling you that he is not physically well then I would go with that. On the other hand, I just think that it pissed my son off when I tried tummy time because he felt trapped in his own body. Also, is he teething? I use teething tablets on my little guy when nothing else seems to work. He has 4 big molars coming in at once right now (his gums are sooooo swollen!). I'm not really sure if they take the pain away, or just take the edge off his bad mood but they help when he's screaming and I'm contemplating calling my dh home from work to take over. :)

Teething AND discovering her world, much like a human baby! She also may be attempting to "nurse" your fingers, being that 6-7 weeks of age is a bit young to be fully weaned for a kitten. Most reputable breeders will wait 10-14 weeks before adopting litters out. No safe teething tablets, per se, but encouraging "hunting" play (as with a feather on a string), offering small, soft cat treats (you can make them soft by putting a few drops of water on them and wait for the water to soak in), and discouraging the chewing. When my foster kittens start to use my fingers as chew toys, I gently push back. As in, push my finger toward the back of their throat. They don't like the feeling, and eventually, the behavior stops. This does not hurt them. The point is NOT to gag them, just to give them an uncomfortable feeling, kind of like a "that piece of meat is too big for my gullet" feeling. Hope my suggestions help! A side note, now would be the time to get a vet visit lined up for baby's first vaccines and check-up!

I have never had a pediatrician make me wait till the next day for a sick child. You might want to consider finding a group practice because fall/winter is yet to come and with a kindergartner going to school, this probably won't be your last sick visit.for the year. If that isn't an option, see if your CVS has a Minute Clinic. Our copay is only $15 there. The downside of the Minute Clinic is limited hours, but they do come in handy! Tilt the baby's mattress up on one end with pillows placed underneath. She will be more comfortable when laying down.

Jo-I just saw this, but I wanted to respond. I would talk to your doctor if you feel like his behavior has changed. In Fairfax County they have a program called Child Find. I'm sure your area has something similar. You can talk to them FREE and they can evaulate Brody (although he may be too young?) in many areas. Katie also has a tooth breaking through and is trying to crawl. Some days she is a nightmare to hold or feed. All she does is wiggle and squirm. Teething can be pretty painful and make them miserable. Sometimes sucking on a bottle aggravates the tooth pain. Or if he is having an allergy/reflux, his stomach may be upset? Reflux seems to be quite common among my friends kids. Mostly, I just wanted to tell you to hang in there. It's not easy being a mom, esp the first time. We worry about lots of stuff! I know you love Brody and he definitely loves you back. You have NOT failed him. The simple fact that you're so worried tells me how much you love him and want the best for him! I hope you had fun at your girls night. Let's try to plan something before the holidays (with or without the kids)???
