Not yet. But I checked out both the Purple Martin, and Hummingbird migration maps Friday. The Martins are closer than I thought already. I hope we don't get some really bad weather after they get here.

Where is your area, Ron? I don't know where you live.

I hope ours don't show up until there's enough natural food to support them, they're usually quite smart like that. We generally get ours around tax day, April 15, with earlier sightings around the 8th. We're in NW Arkansas.

I live in south Ga. about 40 miles from the Florida line. Don't remember hummers coming this early, but glad to see them. I am amazed that they remember where the feeders were last year. He was flying around the tree that held the feeder.

Not yet, but I am further up in GA than you are. I plan on getting my feeders filled and out today. Can't wait to see those little darlings.

My Purple Martins should be here in Larimore the very last days of April or the first week in May. I will have the gourds up and filled with clean pre-nests by April 15. I seal off the openings with duct tape until the day they arrive.

I set out nectar feeders on April 15, too. I won't have any humming birds, but I use the large oriole feeders with large feeding ports so the orioles, woodpeckers, finches, etc. can all enjoy the nectar. And, just in case there's an early bird hummer, he'll have some food, too!

Can anyone tell me why a hummingbird does this: I have noticed a hummingbird come to a small patch of dirt in our yard and put its beak into the dirt. I don't know if it's getting dirt to build a nest, or what?

I live in so. Ca and we seem to have hummingbirds around all the time.

I'm in Ohio, I see the first ones on May 1st..so it will be while. But since they are eary for you I'll have my feeders ready earlier this years.

Helen, I think hummingbirds line their nests with mud, so that may be what he is doing.

Also, all birds eat grit and need minerals. Maybe he's supplementing his diet!

Ha! Ha! I thought you were talking about those ugly urban assault vehicles. I know it's spring around here when people take their Jaguars out of winter storage and drive them like crazy people on the local highways.

I think I can be forgiven my ignorance because we don't have hummingbirds here. Isn't that sad?

I haven't seen any yet. I'm not feeding them this year or last. two neighborhood cats use my house as a rental and hang around and are jumpers so I will miss the hummers

Hummers come to my area in August. I rarely see any before that. Once they come though, I get to enjoy them for several weeks.

I've been seeing them all year.. This is my second year that I've had a nesting pair of Anna's living in my care.
