IMO, the green room with the flowers is perfect for a cottage style. I love that color of green, it's like a garden in the summer, with added flowers from the bed spread.

You can always get a different print for a bed spread. I'm not fond of solid color spreads though.

My vote is #2.

As soon as I saw your pic I thot that a yard-long picture above your bed would work well. Often seen with floral or Victorian images but sometimes other subjects. You could get a similar effect by buying a long narrow frame and having a mat cut to fit a series of photos.

Both of those rooms have semi-sheer full panels as WT's which is a simple look for Cottage style. Either wall color would work well. Crown molding would be a wonderful addition to your room, is there a reason you don't want it?

Since you don't like florals and already have a plaid spread you might get a different plaid. I suggest one with several muted colors.

Find an inspiration fabric first which you might use for the spread, cushion covers, and/or floor length tablecloth for your round table. Then take your paint color from that.

Go easy on the knick-knacks - perhaps use an open or glass door wall cupboard to group any collections you have.

I think the two things that really make each of your inspiration rooms pop is the crown and window trim. Are you just not wanting to go to that level of remodeling?

If I were you, I'd find the bedding you love first and then do the window treatments and wall color after the fact. I've found that finding bedding that I like is one of the hardest things!

Check out JCPenney - they have alot of nice bedding and usually have some good sales so it's not a budget breaker. I also like Linen Source and Company Store for nice bedding.

It looks like you have hardwood floors so maybe you could also look for an area rug for beside your bed that you like. You could have the rug be the focal point and do sheers at the windows and a solid color coverlet with an accent color throw. I have in the past just given up on finding printed bedding that I like and currently have a cream matelasse coverlet with a pottery barn velvet comforter at the foot of the bed with matching velvet shams. I found some print fabric I liked and had window treatments made from that.

Macy's online has an amazing selection of bedding.

I've always liked that sage green, but lately I've been on a blue bent for some reason. I think the green would probably fit with the rest of the house, better.

As for the crown molding, I can do most of the finish carpentry I need, but I just can't get the angles cut right for crown molding in house that are not perfectly square. I just don't think my brain bends that way. I would assume that it would be necessary to put it in the rest of the house. And I usually am working alone, and overhead work stinks. :-)

But if it would really make a difference, I'll suck it up and hire someone. I have 8' ceilings if that matters.

I don't like large amounts of florals, but can tolerate a few. It's more that I don't like Victorian or too girly or romantic. And The Husband appreciates that. He grew up in a house where all the public living areas were painted pink.

The outside of my house has a rustic, lakeside cabin look to it and I lean more toward the more rustic and coastal type looks. It's entirely possible that I'm just not using the right terminology.

When I said knicknacks, I was referring to lamps and other decor. Books are about the closest thing to a collection I have. I like uncluttered!

Thanks also for the tips on the yard-long art and places to buy bedding. I've just not seen anything I like now that I'm actually looking.

OMG, that second one is my old comforter set! Seriously. I bought it from "A Touch of Class" catalog many years ago (1990 maybe?). I loved it. It was so pretty, Cottagy, well-made and comfy to take a nap on, too. This was when I was doing a Cottage-style MBR. I do like both of those bedrooms you've shown, though, as well as the comforter you have on your bed now.
