Limestone walls and stucco walls are very harmonious together, when used in ways consistent with the nature of the two materials. Real or faux wood siding can also be harmonious but require more design planning. Everything depends on the architectural style of your house. Colors may either be analogous or contrasting, so long as the colors are harmonious with one another. Good luck with your project.

Our house is the same style. The plan is to do the following - white for the doors (3 sets going across the front) and trim with Charleston Green shutters, an antique brick for the piers, stairs to porch and walkway, and a pale blue porch ceiling - "haint blue" is what everyone at home calls it. I am sure it repels neither spirits nor dirt daubers, but I like the history aspect. Since you are on Houzz, search "Creole Design" under "Professionals" in the box at the top. It's a designer in Houston that does a ton of this style. Not that he is the end-all be-all, but it's a nice collection of photos of that and NOLA style without having to search too hard! This is a really good idea that I had never heard before. But it makes perfect sense. Clear paint! Why didn't I think of that? Basically, a coat of clear acrylic. There are clear bases and white bases. Be sure you ask for the proper one. The the more vivid colors like red take a clear base. That's part of why they take more coats to cover. Even the deepest base might dry a bit translucent though. Because you're trying so hard to color match, it's worth buying a quart can and giving it a test on an out of the war spot. HD might sell you one of those little tester bottles full since they use it for mixing samples. Let us know how it turns out. If it you don't love the look you could put on a couple coats of a satin finish spar varnish. Boring. It's pretty durable for weatherproofing, but where's the manly adventure??? ~;o)

jamiu, that's a nice looking door. there is also a way to use white/beige paint to 'wash' the grain and give it more of an oak look. Kind of similar to this mahogany chest. this obviously isn't finished, but you can se how the washing really removes the red and if you really want to go all out, you can bleach the wood. But I would suggest that anyone who wants that look to purchase a white oak door and not spend the money on mahogany!
