As someone who has children and a white tile floor I would not recommend it at all. We absolutely hate our white tile floor because it always looks dirty no matter how recently we've cleaned it. I would recommend going with something that can hide the dirt and be kind to yourself.

It's really tough to find common-sense advice online about backsplashes - I see tons of product sales spiels or superficial noise (choose a color that's pleasing to you, consider all the wonderful options out there, blah blah blah".) Thanks for a particularly in-depth contribution. Deee:I am dealing with exactly the challenge you mention. This BS can be seen by entire open LR/DR layout. Hard enough coordinating a BS to kitchen elements, let alone most of house. Next house, no open layouts!

I'm trying to go with a timeless traditional feel with modern finishes. Not modern like the look, but modern like indoor toilets ;) i would stick with traditional subway shape. I was looking at some suggestions from that thread and the brown with whitish grout is interesting. Not sure it's for me though. This project is not a rush (obviously!). We have the tile guy coming next week for the laundry room and powder room floors. And the plumber never got back to me from 3 weeks ago regarding a quote. Hope he shows up before the tile guy!

Browns occur in a wide range of shades from warm to cool and they need to complement each other or you might end up with a result that makes you vaguely dissatisfied with the overall effect. @raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio "Vaguely Dissatisfied" is spot on. I must have tried a forest's worth of flooring samples against my "golden" walnut cabinets and nothing looks right. Re your red oak, I wonder if there is a significant hue difference (or some other color difference) between red oak harvested 80 years ago versus modern day red oak. Because all the newish red oak floors I see seem to lean pink or red when unstained. @Patricia Colwell, I also LOVE natural walnut floors. I keep pondering that species as a way to distract from our "golden" walnut cabs, but DH prefers lighter over darker flooring. (Plus, the $$.) @lucky998877, thanks.
