How do YOU clean your tub?

I don't have a detachable shower head, so I find it so hard to clean my shower walls etc. I have no problem getting in there scrubbing, but rinsing is a different story. I use a cup and kind of throw it on the walls, but water gets everywhere, runs down my arms soaks me.....What do yo do? Tips please?

I don't have a detachable shower head either. I scrub it, take a shower and rinse it while I'm in there.

You might want to try Charlie's Soap general cleaner. If you will spray it on the tub and let it sit while you clean the rest of the bathroom, all you'll have to do is wipe down the tub, then rinse. This cleaner doesn't 'power' through like other cleaners, but if let to sit will do it's thing with little work on your part, then rinse down the drain. Mine is all on the deck, faucet and handles on the outside, handshower on the inside. I made sure the handshower leans over the tub in its resting position so the drips go down the drain. Your decision may be personal preference or it may be dictatated by the dimensions of your fixtures and available surface on the tub. Take all the pieces out of the box and mock up your options to see what you like and what works best. Joe

CLR is a mix of acids. Usually the calcium will dissolve in acid, but sometimes soap will not. If the tub is in daily use, you could spray it with Clean Shower after every use. Eventually (month or so) the alcohol in Clean Shower will soften both the calcium from the water and the soap scum. Both calcium and soap dissolve in alcohol. Then you can use a plastic scrubber (I used a Choreboy type scrubber). If the tub is not in daily use, you could spray it at least daily with the same stuff for a month or two - then scrub with the Choreboy. Daily use of Clean Shower has kept my shower clean for years with pretty hard water.

For Replace of the Bath tub Drain, should have the appropriate tools and equipment. you'll need a tub drain wrench. You will also need plumber's putty and a new drain. Remove the plug. Using pliers, grab onto the plug and twist, in a counter-clockwise direction untill the plug comes out of the hole. Use the tub wrench. Place the wrench into the hole, and using a counterclockwise motion, unscrew the drain flange and pull it up and out. Prepare the drain flange for installation. Smear plumber's putty under the flange rim. In order to ensure a water tight seal, this is a necessary step. Install the new drain, in to the hole. Screw in the stopper, until it is fully inserted into the new drain.Test your bathtub drain-stopper. Turn on the water If it holds water, your repair is successful. My 'shower head' IS a 'hand held'. I didn't see any point in having both. It's on a bar -- can go up or down and comes off to rinse the shower walls and floor. You might get a bid on one of these -- shouldn't be very expensive. My head has various power settings; can really blast the corners!

I shower, rarely take a tub bath. In my shower I use dove soap on my body which rinses off the walls easily without scrubbing. I also use a squeegie I think it's called to wipe water off of the floor and other flat surfaces, then wipe it down with a towel. I never do an all out cleaning on it. It's 5 years old and still looks new.

Someone once told me she used the cheapest brand of shampoo that she could find at the drug store to clean her bathtub and sink. It works without a lot of elbow grease and makes it look shiny and new. I think I paid two for a dollar and I have well water with lots of minerals and it worked for me. Just rinse well as it is slippery if you do not get all the residue soapsuds.

I used to have the same problem with rinsing, so I bought a hand-held shower head, no more problem, much easier.

Lemon Comet works well on my plastic shower and tub.
It's not abrasive and doesn't leave the surfaces slick.

No shower head of any kind in old uncle's tub, so I lack a scummy wall problem.

Soap leaves scum: detergent doesn't.

I use shampoo to shave.

Mr. Clean Magic eraser works wonders. I sometimes wipe down with clean water on a wet rag afterwards.

I just couldn't do without my shower head on a hose. Besides rinsing the tub and shower, it is handy for bathing dogs and small children.

Go buy a hand held shower head. It's easier for everything--washing your hair, especially helping children bathe, cleaning the tub. They're not expensive--go get one!! We've had them for years.

I've been using 7th Generation Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner. Spray it on, let sit for a bit and then I wipe with a microfiber cloth--no need to rinse. If it dries too much, I spray more on the walls or on the cloth and then wipe.

I have a double--stationery and hand held. A $29. special at Lowes. Love it. But it you don't want to invest in one, an indoor watering can with long spout should work easier than throwing water at it from a cup. By the way, I've done that too. LOL

Thanks for all the replies, sorry I was so late commenting back, things are really sticky here right now.. the law sucks anyways......... not the issue......

I will probably talk my husband into getting a hand held shower head cause that will be so much easier..

You can get the kind that just slide onto a small shower head or the tub spout and you have a shower wand. That's one thing I wouldn't be without.

For cleaning it I have one of those Mr. Clean things on an adjustable handle. Can't remember the name. Magic Reach or something like that? Just bought another shorter version that uses something like a Scotchbright pad now that I don't have a water softener I get the stains I didn't before so I need to do a little more cleaning... one of these days.

I have the full tub shower fiberglass tub,I spray scrubbing bubbles all over,while thats doing its thing I do toilet,sink,come back wipe it all down,rinse looks great,shine!

Non-toxic cleaner and elbow grease. I use cups of water to rinse the sides of the shower if I need to. I would have a detachable shower head if I could, but I can't right now.

I don't use chemical cleaners any more as I think they are detrimental to health. It takes a little more effort without them but I consider it a long term investment!

We have a cultured marble tub and shower. I "carefully" use an old credit card to scrape the really tough scum off and then finish up with Gel Gloss which protects for a good while. It's great for cleaning the faucets and such as well.
