The foot panel sticks out slightly from the baseboard, less than 1". On our island, we can't really see the panel because it's in the toekick. It's also narrower than the bottom of a dishwasher (less than 8" probably) although I can honestly say I've never thought enough about the bottom of my dishwasher to think that it was ugly. LOL Anyway, here are 3 pics of my foot panel.

OK, I probably should know this but what exactly is a tapmaster and do I need one?!

Here's a pic of mine so you can sort of put it in perspective. It is very unobtrusive. Okay here is my non technical explanation of the Tapmaster. It is a foot pedal connected to your faucet plumbing which allows you to control the on/off function of the faucet. You open the faucet and set it to the temperature you use most and engage the tapmaster. Then you can turn the water off and on with a touch of your foot. It really is great. I had never heard of them until I started reading this forum. I asked the same questions. I lovelovelove mine!! It makes everything you do at the sink easier, rinsing dishes for the dishwasher, filling pots, washing your hands, etc. I am seriously considering one for the bathroom remodel coming next.

Thanks for the explanation of what it is. I too have been wondering if I've been living in a cave. I had no idea what it was either. It sounds like a neat toy. I would like it, but not sure I'd spend the money on it. I am one that likes to turn the water off and on rather than leave it running, like my hubby does, when I am at the sink doing anything.

It sounds like the perfect gadget for a man while shaving.

Debbie, That is one of the beauties of the Tapmaster. The tapmaster makes it easier NOT to leave the water running. Because you don't have to have a hand free to turn it off. You just release the pressure on the foot pedal. I am probably not explaining it so well. Maybe someone else will chime in to clarify it a little better. :~D

You explained it great, Whippiechick. Years ago in a travel trailer my husband made me a version that we activated by pushing a button with our right hip. Swivel in, the water went on, relax back, the water went off. SO convenient! In very short order after installation, you don't even think about it.

One word of advice about the placement of your foot pedal. If you have a traditional two part sink, you'll want to place the foot control on the side of the sink you work at mostly. I stand at the right side 99.9% of the time. DH installed the foot pedal in the center of the sink (at the sink divide). That wasn't going to work! I had him replace it to the center of the right side of the sink. Speaking with the people at Tapmaster, I questioned the install directions. They hadn't thought of that and *said* they'd change the wording in their install manual. Don't know if they did or not. I had another installed in our master bathroom in Dec (kitchen Tapmaster was installed in 02) but didn't think about looking in the install manual to see if they did.

remodelfla My husband would have installed it a lot more quickly if it were some kind of "beer brewer"! LOL And he wouldn't have complained about the price either. Now that I think about it, he would probably spend more time in the kitchen too!

Monica's point is well taken. If you notice, ours is installed to the right of center. I would have never thought of this but my husband did and it's perfect for where my faucet normally is.

I have two tapmasters; one like those pictured here (on my birch cabinets) and one that is all flat black on my black island. Tapmasters also come in a creme/white color. I bought mine from Conservastore. (It was also less expensive than buying directly. :)

It arrived today but I can't install it or take pictures of for several weeks I bet...Look at the link and you will see that there no longer is a back plate, rather a stick of sorts that your foot can push either way! Quite ingenious and barly noticeable IYAM!

Wow - Sullys7 - have you used this new model Tapmaster yet? Has anyone used it yet? Is it easier? Less noticable? I'm indecisive on which model I want now. Anyone have thoughts?

I think it would actually be less obtrusive and there's a larger surface to "hit" so it strikes me as probably easier to use.

In any case, couldn't be happier with the two I put in my kitchen and pantry.

The down side? I can't have them in the bathroom because there are toe kick heaters under the sinks. Meanwhile, I keep pushing on the toe kick heater to turn on the water in the morning when I'm sleepy.
