If you have a concern about the brand, why don't you ask the KD why she recommends them and why she used the other brand for the kitchen you saw. Maybe there was something about the style, finish, or color on the other kitchen that required the other brand. That said, we are using Holiday Cabinets in our kitchen. Our kitchen designer owns a kitchen studio and he carries two brands of cabinets - Downsview and Holiday. The KD was recommended by our builder - he did the builder's kitchen and has won a ton of awards in our area, so I feel comfortable with the cabinets in his shop. Downsview cabinets were about 25% more expensive than the Holiday ones and both the builder and KD's comment was that it was worth this if I wanted ornate cabinets or some kind of fancy glaze. However, since I want shaker style white cabinets, there was really no need to pay the extra. So, we are getting Holiday cabinets. I have been assured by the KD that they are good, well-built cabinets with high quality drawers, boxes, etc. The KD also assured me that they have the features I want. I hope this helps.

I'm a Downsview dealer in Kingston, ON and have been for 30 years. They manufacture beautiful high end kitchens. Yes, you do pay partially for the name. A few good points: They have state of the art finishing booths and their finishes are second to none. No custom cabinet maker working out of a garage can duplicate a DV finish, most manufacturers can not duplicate a DV finish. I have had clients take a key to some sample paint finishes and it has barely made a scratch. The drawer boxes are longer then most other manufacturers. They edge tape all sides of a shelf (most other manufacturers only edge tape the front) The plywood they use for their boxes is much denser then plywood used by lesser priced manufacturers. The cabinets come with a gasket seal around the whole edge not just a stick on plastic bumper. They make all of their own doors so you can pretty well get any look you want. Bad Points: Price Measure mistakes are a designer/dealer error not a manufacturer error. Missing pieces and wrong colours could also be designer/dealer error (maybe they ordered them wrong or forgot to order them?) Yes, Downsview uses a 3mm reveal on all doors and drawers. If you want to order concealed handles, decide this in advance so that the reveal can be made larger to accomodate (again - dealer/designer error)

Beatrix: There are two kinds...the one you have, which for the most part is probably fine, but I have heard complaints about getting things out from the shelves in the middle...the hardwares for the shelves above get in the way if the items are close to the max height of the shelf space...you have to finagle the item (tilt it and and pull it up and out....meanwhile possibly knocking over items in front of it). However, I personally think that's an issue even with any/all shelves! This type is the type I'm getting for my 9" base cabinets. So, I'm not totally against them...I just happen to like the furniture look for a larger pantry...strictly personal preference! The one I really didn't like (the one I referenced in my previous above) was one that you open the doors and then you pull out a series of pullout inserts that swing out and around. There're are usually narrow adjustable shelves on the back wall. See the link below for Rev-A-Shelf's version of it...the Omega version is wood. I think it's a waste of space. Even if it isn't, I can see having to pull out every one of them looking for what I need! (In our current pantry, DH and kids don't put things away where they belong...they put them in the first open space they see!) Oh...it's called a "Roll-Out Pantry". Too vague to even begin to answer . Which design I see none , when you mention a particular item always post a pic here I for one do not want to go hunting to understand the choices.I just glanced at Mouser and there is IMO nothing contemporay about what I saw. I think we need a good idea of what the exact cabinets you want are for sure. I personally would do Italian made cabinets if I was looking for ultra contemporary so I need more info.
