Whitehause WH3018 Farmhouse Sink
Comments (12)Just a follow up for everyone. Whitehaus has declined responsibility for the manufacturing defect in my WH3018 fireclay farmhouse sink. Their warranty states 1 year and they are holding fast to those 12 months. And although we took delivery of the sink; it was not installed immediately, so we were out of warranty by 2 months. Circuspeaunt, I'm sure you are correct - there are internal defects and you win some & lose some. The sink was $932.50 + tax when I bought it, plus the special flange, plus the carpentry and plumbing. You would think a sink could be easily and inexpensively scanned for internal defects; I suppose that technology has not caught up with the sink manufacturers yet. For all of you with a farm sink that has stood the test of time; I'm jealous, but happy for you. I would not ever buy or recommend a Whitehaus fireclay sink, unless you plan to buy in batch :-D Now I am off to find a sink that approximates the platform and holes for the disposal so that we do not need to build a new platform - and yes I still want a single bowl sink. kj...See Morevintage farmhouse apron sink w/ backsplash, need faucet info
Comments (6)Thanks for your responses and compliments! Please continue to send faucet information if others have any to share! circuspeanut, glad you like my sinks! The original sink is one of the selling point for me about this house. DH wanted to get rid of it when updating the kitchen, and replace it with a new, undermount sink. I had to say NO to that idea every time the kitchen update project was mentioned (we are DIY, hubby VERY handy with his tools :) "blush") ! He finally got the picture that I REALLY want to keep the sink, so, after 16 years, we are proceeding with the kitchen project with sink in place! Well, he actually moved it out from the cabinets and raised it a couple inches. Love it! Thanks for the links for the faucets. I'm really wanting something with a little more character than those, preferably some curves. I've seen some, even ordered one, but the spout reach ended up being too far. mom2lilenj, I like that faucet. It is the one I had decided on if I can't find something with a little curve to it. Could you tell me how high the soap dish is above the faucet? Actually, the measurement from the bottom of the bridge to the top of the soap dish would be great! DH extended my windowsill a few inches, giving me a wide shelf above the sink for my pots of herbs, and I'm hoping the soap dish wouldn't interfere with that. Do you like having the soapdish attached to the kitchen sink? I'd love to see a photo of your kitchen, and another of the sink area. Care to share? danielleak450, I love the type sink you mentioned having also! My sink is original to the house, and these are the original kitchen cabinets. However, the sink had been undermounted for about 90 years and you couldn't see the "bulk" of it until this kitchen update! We recently removed the sink (fireclay, 42inch, very heavy) with the help of a jack, and DH cut the sink base cabinet down to accomodate the front edge of the sink, exposing the apron while raising the sink to a more appropriate height for me. He also had to extend the area under the window sill and behind the sink backsplash in order to move the sink out. I love what we came up with! The wide shelf is going to be great for my herbs this summer. buffalotina Our kitchen cabinets are origninal, except that DH had to alter the sink base to expose the sink as shown above. They were painted "wild berry" when we bought the house in the early 90's! I quickly toned them down to Ralph Lauren "country stove white" and that color has worked well for me all these years. As I mentioned above, DH is very handy, and I recently talked him into building me a butlers pantry with cabinets to match the kitchen ones. He did all the work himself, and they are a great match! We were even able to find hinges and he altered the mounting style, so they look like the originals as well! I can give you information on those if you are interested. I'll post photos of the before and after, so far. Keep in mind, I'm still looking for the perfect paint color (a tan green) and final touches. before now-added antique stove (for storage and serving surface), raised sink up and out, new countertop, drawer pulls, bead board backsplash - still needs paint, rug, new faucet, final touches New butler's pantry DIY, cabinets and all-still needs paint, dw panel to match cabinets, and a few final touches...See Morefireclay vs. quartz farmhouse sink

Is this little chip ok?
Comments (6)I believe the stepped lip is "supposed" to be the front! It also looks a lot more comfortable to lean against while washing dishes. As for the reinforcement grids (chips on bottom), they appear to be superficial chips - not ideal, but probably not a problem. Make sure there are NO hairline cracks emanating from them though - if there are ANY cracks (not chips, but fine CRACKS), return that sink ASAP because that will be a disaster waiting to happen. You bought the sink on Ebay, so I hope for your sake there are no cracks! Do contact the seller and report the chips though. Was that mentioned in the listing? If not see what they say. I highly doubt that happened during shipping - that kind of damage would happen on the edges, not the middle of the bottom. Either it was already chipped when listed (and they failed to mention that, listed with different pics), or it happened when they packaged it for shipping. Either way it is their fault, so see what they say. Maybe get a refund for the shipping cost? I assume it was insured, but you'd have to return it to get the post office to pay the insurance claim. If there are no cracks and they refuse to deal, give them neutral feedback with details of the chips in the info section. It will be very useful info for future buyers. Here's a tip - plug the drain hole with a silicone or rubber drain plug (hardware stores sell them, I believe) and some silicone caulk (let dry), fill the sink with water, mark the top of the waterline with some painter's tape, and let it sit (in a bathtub) for 24 hours. If the water level does not go down you should be fine....See Morebeaglesdoitbetter1
