Advice on wood look porcelain tile for floors

We went to the Porcelenosa showroom today to look for rectified through body porcelain tile for our living area. My DH really liked the wood look porcelain. It was really beautiful and expensive. $10-$14 a sq.ft. depending on length. I'm looking for alternative and recommended brands of this type of tile.

Again, rectified, through body color, wood look porcelain. Suggestions anyone? OH.. and definitely less expensive then $14 a sq.ft.

check ESKO line from Impronta depend of the size start from $8,00
I did a kitchen floor with the ESKO QUERCUS.

also N4 is a wonderfull "wood look"

Elyse, I never saw the Porcelanosa in person (drove 2 hrs to the showroom but was never able to find it in crazy north Jersey traffic!) when I was considering wood look tile but from what I've read, it's supposed to be one of the nicest out there. Wish I could remember the names of the many others I did see, none of which impressed me.

I had the same dilemna. I have golden oak floors throughout the rest of the house, but I wanted a darker floor in the kitchen. I would have loved an rustic, wide plank wood floor. This floor would not have matched the floors in the rest of the house and I was warned that the transitions from one floor to the other would not look so good by the saddles. In the end, I decided to go with the wood look tile because it works better with radiant heat than wood. I am so glad we did. Between the children and dog it was a good choice for us. I still have to stain the saddles at the two doorways that lead out of the kitchen, but it will be fine. If I used any floor other than golden oak, I would have the transition issue anyway. Love my tile floor! So easy to maintain.

Your tile choice requires A Flat & deflection rated substrate upon which to install tile. (This in itself a long conversation and different for EVERY home and its structure.) Perhaps your installer knows your floor is not rated for Plank tile and has not explained it properly to you. The first thing a tile floor job requires is A proper demo and Substrate preperation. This includes asessing the joist structure or slab conditions and measuring deflection ratings. After that Followed by a proper substrate prep all with the Tiles MFG rating in mind ( I.E. C1, Res2, etc. Floor rated, wall rated etc.) I turn down a lot of floor jobs if the homeowner(s) arent willing to Address all these issues. If I cannot gurantee my tile floor job I wont take the project. Now you have a few more questions in youre arsenal to ask prospective tile installers for your project ....best of luck.

I vote for floating, click, wood look, luxury vinyl plank. I especially like the style with knots and chatter marks. Lay it throughout the whole house, on the diagonal, with no thresh holds. That's what I did. I can clean the entire house in approximately five minutes with an electric leaf blower. Porcelain tile is more durable however it is more expensive to buy, more expensive to install, and more expensive to uninstall. Also, some tile is extremely slippery when wet whereas wood grain LVP is not slippery at all. Five years later I am happier than ever I chose grey driftwood luxury vinyl plank for a house with dogs, kids, beach sand, and lots of wet feet. If the house gets inundated from storm surge and ocean water gets inside, I can unclick the LVP, clean and dry the subfloor, and then reinstall the same LVP and it will look as good as new.

Several here will tell you not to use wood-look tile, but there are several tile brands that make a nice looking wood-look tile, but you need to look for the brands with longer tiles and with more variations in the printed pattern. The cheaper ones look ... cheap! The question is do you want tile or engineered wood? Who will be living in the house? Are you in a warm climate near the water, beach, etc? Lots of kids, pets or family members who are hard on floors? In a previous house I used wood-look tile in a guest house and it was the perfect flooring for that situation. The guest house was more of a recreation space for teens and workshop for my DH, so the tile flooring was hard wearing and something I never had to worry about. I'm in FL now where many houses have all tile floors and I don't love the overall look and feel. We built in 2021 and used engineered wood floors, but I did do a larger section in tile in our long back hallway where our dogs stay when we are out for a few hours. Had I not had the 3 dogs I would have also done this area in wood. Design the house to suit your family's needs. Stay away from grey!

Too funny. Remember way back to one of your very first posts (maybe even the very first one) where you were asking about shich kind of floor to get? That Porcelenosa (or however you spell it) stuff is what I was telling you about. It is gorgeous stuff.

No ideas on alternatives, unfortunately.

cheri... it was really really nice. I'm not focused on fooling people that it's real wood, though it did look AWESOME. It just looks beautiful for what it is and tile makes the most sense for us.

Sorry. I've seen any number of these, but what you've posted is about the going rate for textured floor tiles here. The wood look with the tile function does sound like a great compromise! :)

Those were my feelings exactly...wasn't trying to get fake wood but thought it was beautiful in it's own right. Did you check over in the flooring forum? There were a couple of threads that recommended some wood look tile manufacturers. They were old, but they were still there a few months ago.

So I actually randomly found something for you. While I know this actual post won't help, you might want to look up the tiles. Ergon is the manufacturer and the link below shows the Bambu line. According to the below link, it's 8.50 / sqft.
