I would suggest they refrain from having sex for a week or two before ovulation. Then about 2-3 days BEFORE they think she will ovulate (which they should by now have a good guess at), have sex. I have found many people get pregnant earlier in the cycle than they think they will. I'm not sure about the refraining from sex thing, but if they're consistantly having sex ever other day and his count is low to being with, they may want to at least try abstaining to build up the boys. Then again, I really don't know what I talking about but they may want to give it a try.

I didn't have fertility problems so take these for what they are worth.

Dear Abby had an article several years ago suggesting that men wear boxers instead of briefs. Several people wrote in to say it worked.

I had a former coworker that had a hard time trying to get pregnant with her second child. She said someone told her to take Geritol instead of other vitamins. It helped her to get pregnant.

I am going through the same thing right now. I would suggest she go and see a specialist. She'll take an HSG test and do some blood work. He will need to go and make a "donation" as well. Then the doctor will evaluate. There is a chance she could not be ovulating. The first thing we've done is take Clomid to help me ovulate. It's a pill you take on day 5 through 9 of your cycle. On day 23 I take blood work to see if I have ovulated. We're on our third dose right now.

Again, I would definitely recommend to go and see a specialist. I wish I hadn't listened to all of those people (including my gyno's) who said "it will happen when you're not trying." I would have gone a year earlier to the specialist. Good luck to them :) Christy

I haven't been there, either. But a friend of mine tried for almost a year to conceive with no results. She went to a specialist a few months ago. They did blood work. Found out she has a blood disorder causing her blood to clott more than it should. Good discovery, as it needs to be treated in itself. And, they determined that is what was causing her infertility. She had also mentioned to dr that her periods were "different." Regular, but shorter. With all these facts, they believe she has always been ovulating, and that the egg was being fertilized almost every month. But the blood clotting disorder was causing a foul up with implanting on the uterine wall. She would miscarry within days of conception, before she even knew she had conceived.

They got that straightened out easily. I don't remember what was prescribed to her, but it includes baby asprin for to reduce the clotting and even more folic acid that is normally recommended for pregnancy. Next cycle everything worked like it's supposed to, she is about 10 weeks prego now (now morning sickness is driving her nuts).

I know it's not always so simple. So really my point is the problem could be so many things, and no reason to assume the worst. And the best thing is go see a specialist and it could be resolved with less stress.

Another thing she could do is to start taking cinnamon capsules. I've recently been given that advice, and was forwarded the article. Here it is below, it is the 4th article down. Christy :)

Personally, while I understand the desire to have a child, I think that too many people these days are trying to do it too quickly.

When we were trying to get pregnant (30 years ago), it wasn't happening. We were young, establishing our careers, had a house that was stretching us a little financially. We were S-T-R-E-S-S-E-D in other words. We tried to get pregnant for 6 years--with no specialists, but no success, either.

Then, one day, I got laid off from my job. Seemed like the end of the world on top of everything else. Was the best thing that could have happened to me. We realized that we were okay living on DH's salary. I couldn't get another job in my field that year, but was called back to work at my old place for about 4 months, because 2 other employees were pregnant. That year, being one of big changes, I went on a self-improvement program that included some serious working out. And guess what happened? By the time I was done my pregnancy fill-ins, I was pregnant, myself.

The best thing, IMO, assuming there isn't a serious medical situation--is for the couple to remove the stress from their lives, and stop obsessing about getting pregnant. It was when we did that, that it happened within months. That may sound a little contradictory to what I just posted, but it was one of those--when the worst happens, you realize things aren't nearly as bad as they seemed in your mind kind of things.
