Keeping Warm in the Pool

Does anyone have a suggestion for keeping a child warm in the pool? I took my 3 yo swimming yesterday. He shivered the whole time. The rest of us were warm. The poor kid has no bodyfat and is built like a string bean. I was wondering if there is some type of clothing I could put on him without buying a full wetsuit?

Warm the water in the pool....and be sure he keeps submerged....it's the cool air on his wet skin that makes him shivver.
Don't know where in New Mexico you are....but the air is dry there and evaporation is faster....and wet exposed skin gets colder faster.
One of the things I well remember is driving through Nebraska in August.....and the heat was awful....over 100...and a breeze like out of a blast furnace.
After dinner my hisband and I decided to hit the motel pool to cool off....and about froze when we got out. The dry warm breeze evaporated the water so fast we were shivvering before we got to our rooms.

Linda's got it right about the quick evaporation. About all you can do is wrap him in a dry towel as soon as he gets out. If he is cold in the water, maybe you should think twice about letting him go in until it gets warmer. After all, he is only 3.

b-foo, If you only need to protect the roots. I have used a thick layer of mulch around the pot. The mulch will insulate and also produce its own heat while it decomposes. Also I have used Styrofoam taped to the pot as well as over the pot top. Also, for short periods, I have used thick storage blankets. JMHO Aloha

The CSO has the keep warm function but to be honest - the oven is so well insultated - I can’t believe it would ever be activated after a cooking cycle. I checked two oven modes in my CSO (I expect my speed and convection to be similar) and they can be set as low as 85 degrees far lower than what you would use for a warming drawer. The CSO is nice such that you can add moisture to a dish if you are keeping it warm if necessary. Steam can be set from 0% to 100% in 5% increments in the combi mode. You can add a burst of steam in most of the other cooking modes. I have 3 ovens and specifically got a speed oven instead of a microwave and a warming drawer as I felt I could use one of my ovens as a warming drawer and still have 2 ovens for normal baking. You can cool an oven down fairly quickly by opening the door. If you set the oven temperature in CSO for a lower temp than what it is at - it will tell you to open the door and the fan will run to cool it off quickly. Have not tried that in my speed oven. I ended up Thanksgiving using my 30” wall oven as the warming drawer as after the bird came out I put dishes in as they were finished to keep warm while using my speed and CSO to cook what was remaining. It worked quite well.

I thought about doing that,before but electric blankets are labeled as shock hazzards when exposed to water. With condensing moisture on your tarp barrier, you should be wary just in case. I've used a small space heater with temp set at 50 and the fan circulating air that I put it under a trash can lid to shed condensation just in case. A blanket plus plastic/tarp is my normal heavy cold protection method, the blanket keeps freeze contact damage against the exterior plastic.

I'm sure there is an answer out there for my problem! We have a concrete garage with sun room built on top. All windows. We are trying to make it solid 4 season and struggling. Installed a 20 SEER, 21,600 BTU mini split and still chilly when temps in 20's. We are going to try heating/insulating the concrete slab under foot in sunroom. What is the most economical way to keep slab warm? We have boiler with hydronic radiant in basement. Do we rip out garage floor and install hydronic radiant there? Ceiling of the garage? Are electric heat mats under tile or LVT in sunroom better solution?

Water does evaporate extra fast here. DS has a long sleeve shirt made out of some man-made material that I may try the next time we go swimming. It is almost 90 degrees here already so I probably won't try to keep him out of the pool.
