Karen, it looks like you've been playing with Topaz, too. Or some other settings. Nice shot!

Interesting barn from the 1930s. That upper door looks a little dangerous.....

Well, I am glad you were able to get back in, and pot your picture after all. I was hoping, getting the tread going would help. The pop bottle is just a bit east of Edmond Oklahoma, near the round barn in Arcadia. The place is called Pops. They sell pop from all over the world, have a diner, and gas station. Nice shiny new place, that even bus tours stop at to eat. We stop there often, but mostly to use the nice clean rest rooms. :) Moni

Jodi, we spent five days in BA. My daughters met me there... we rented a gorgeous apartment in Palermo with two bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, balconies, roof top pool. It was great. And yes we did see Evita's crypt although it was not as impressive as some.

Fire downtown that started at 3 am Sunday morning. A friend of mine's husband is a firefighter. She took the picture. It was minus 13 degrees and the water froze on everything it touched. One business destroyed and others severely damaged.

If you hover over the picture you can see that it says Cabot Tower, at sunset.
I'm surprised it hasn't been used in a thousand movies. Very cool Casey!

Yes, Topaz is a lot of fun. My DS and DIL gave it to me for Christmas. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range--the goal being for the lightest and darkest parts of a photo (and everything in between) to show up with equal intensity. (That's over-simplifying it, but it's the best I can do.) You can do this to a degree with Topaz, but the more ambitious photographers take several exposures of the same subject and then blend them together. I wouldn't be surprised if Nicole's DH has done this. (Nicole?)

Yes......he takes 3 exposures, +1....-1....0....of everything....shot in raw. :0) HDR is out of style...I guess is the way to put it...so is ifra-red photography...

I meant to add that combining the 3 exposures is a technique called "layer masking".....it doesn't have halos above objects like HDR and is a smoother technique....

Thanks guys, Susan, no Topaz or HDR, I just used the "clarify" setting in Paint Shop Pro. It sort of gives that HDR look. I don't like HDR when it's overdone though.

The building is Cabot Tower on Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland. Cabot Tower was built in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee & the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Newfoundland by John Cabot. Signal Hill was the site where Marconi sent the 1st transatlantic wireless signal.

I don't like a lot of HDR either, but I love the look of your picture. The detail and exposure of both the tower and benches are terrific.

Nicole, thanks for the link. That's not how I envisioned infra-red. (I thought it would look worse.) :-)
