Help! Ben Moore "regal" paint is not covering my walls!
Comments (19)Here are the updates. We got our money back for 10 gallons of Regal. You need to know Regal does Not have a primer. It's Not paint& primer. This is only marketing on the label saying paint and primer- said BM expert. If you decide to use Regal you need to prime first. If you don't you'll need at least 3 coats and still may have patchy walls. Especially on textured surface. You cannot use it over oil paint. Our wasn't. Nobody told us about primer and coverage. We were painting over white base and I already mentioned before the PPG paint and primer covered without any problems one coat only. We've used in the past Behr,Valspar ,SW and PPG...we've never ever had a problem. The choice is yours....See MoreSherwin Williams vs. Ben. Moore vs. Behr
Comments (118)Out of the choices Above I'd say BM is your best bet. Behr products are too watered down and their white is more of a gray so that effects the way the colors comes out when tinted. Stay away from SW they are a bit better than behr but they over price for the amount of TITO in their paint as well. BM offers a beautiful color selection and has an exellent product. HOWEVER I would love to put Dunn Edwards in the running here. We have an amazing selection of nearly 2,000 colors (not mention custom color mathces we can do), a superior paint product and a FREE Professional Color Advisor service (that's me) . Plus we have a ton of "kill test" listed on our website and in our store comparing each of our products to the competition. (: but like I said BM is a nice choice!...See MoreSherwin Williams vs Ben Moore
Comments (24)Thanks for relating all of your experiences. Rhome--I'm not sure about how quickly for the yellowing. My painter has warned me about it several times. Since my Carrara is so gray, I don't want to risk the oil yellowing and turning my white cabs into the wrong color in 5 years. I'm having a hard enough time picking the right white paint that doesn't have yellow undertones as it is! My painter does cab painting as one of her part-time jobs. She works at an espresso stand and does decorative painting also. She is an old friend of my cab maker who has only been making cabs for about two years now. He uses her, but I could find my own person if I'd like. I only saw one example of her painted cabs from my cab maker. The kitchen looked great, but the paint was very creamy and had about 5 layers of glaze so it doesn't compare to a clear, white, non-glazed finish that I'm after. When we met, we didn't like any SW color to compliment my Carrara so we choose a BM color. When the sample door arrived back to us, she has used SW paint instead and choose the closest SW color to the BM one I had picked. I was rightfully a bit annoyed. She said that there used to be a BM store near her, but it had since closed. The cloest BM paint is now at a hardware store, which she says she doesn't trust that she'd get product/painting advice if she needed it. So she switched to SW without telling me. Now, she says she'll do whatever we'd like her to do, but assures me that SW is as good a quality as BM. Like I said, I doubt that to be an absolute. I've asked her to do a sample of a different color (the first one was way too yellow for my gray Carrara) in BM water-based Satin Impervo. I also told her that if she was given advice that another BM water-based product would be better than the Satin Impervo I was OK with that also. Getting a better deal on a particular brand of paint isn't an issue for her. I don't think she buys enough paint to be a regular anywhere. Most of the time my cab maker is asked for stained cabs....See MoreCan I use Kilz as primer then apply Ben by Benjamin Moore?
Comments (5)TSP deglosses too. Dirtex does not. I've never had residue left after using TSP. I rinse after TSP with bleach/water (I imagine ammonia would work too but I find the fumes are worse). Then quick rinse with plain water. I work on one patch at a time then move the scaffolding. So TSP the entire wall, Then one section at a time, rinse with bleach and wipe down with plain water in the same section. TSP saponifies grease residue - so it leaves soap basically, that's what you're cleaning off ultimately with the rinsing. Helps to know what you're working with. Also, its not just the walls, but ALL surfaces that you need to wipe down like this when heavy smokers are involved, not to forget ductwork as well. So ceilings, floors, countertops, everything needs to be washed down. After cleaning, 2 coats of KILZ original will seal in even the smell of smoke from a fire. Then paint....See More- 12 years ago
