well for starters,quit feeling sorry for hubby..there is nothing to a root canal.

Second,get a neti pot,or a turkey baster,and flush out your nose over a sink,with warm,salty water.....it will not hurt,altho it does feel strange,and if nothing else,it might give you some relief

as long as what you have stays viral,you and the babe will be fine,but I understand your anguish.

Lie down whenever possible,or you feel at all tired...do not keep track of what/when..you have a baby coming,you need rest now,and will get it whenever you can once he/she gets here...drink lots of watter.juices,whatever,and try and build up your system somewhat.
the lack of rest and sleep is most likely what has your immune system weakened.

Ditto what Ont Gal says. I have had a few root canals, and they definitely are not something that bad. Nothing, compared to what you are going through. Take a steamy shower or bath--the humidity might help the nasal passages and make you sleepy too. But that salt water irrigation is the best.

I don't have any further advice than has already been given. I just want to send you some hugs. I hope you feel better real soon.

bless your heart...i can remember that 8 month feeling and I got the flu, then a sinus infection...it was awful...I think you've been given some great advice...it'll be over soon...so try to trudge thru...((Theresa))...you need lots of rest...so get it while you can!!

Excellent advice about the neti pot and everything else the others said. Amoxycillin is the usual drug of choice for sinus infections. I usually resist taking antibiotics, but sometimes they're necessary. And one great thing about amoxycillin is that it's cheap.

Tell your DH you would gladly trade what you've got for his root canal.

Poor thing! I feel so bad for all of you that have been struggling with this wierd cold/flu that is going around - Teresa, since it's hard to sleep laying down, do you have a big comfy chair you could make into a temporary bed? Barring that, how about 10 pillows on your bed and sit back against them to keep your fluids from spilling all over..

Oh Teresa, I am SO sorry to hear that you're so sick!! Sinus infections are really common in pregnancy, apparently, since I've had one for 3 months now. However, I do use a neti-pot and it's helped a lot. I wish there was something I could do. Chicken soup? Take care of yourself and little baby!

I was just going to mention the same thing. I tryed the nasal wash cup (like a netti pot) last week and there is nothing to it. It doesn't hurt or sting like I figured. Its really refreshing, I need to do it again myself.

Dr GardenSpice prescribes bundling up in a semi elevated position on the couch, bed or big chair. have lots of pillows so you are fully supported and can drift off without straining your neck.
Within reaching distance: Warm tea, water, tissues, the remote and a bell.
You must get some rest!
(p.s. the worst thing about a root canal is the anticipation.)

Oh Teresa, I feel your pain. Last year when I was pregnant with Evelyn, I had NINE colds or flus. NINE! I wanted to die. I also had the pink eye/ goopy eyes for SIX weeks! It just wouldn't go away. I wish you were closer because I'd bring you soup and take your daughter for the day. There's nothing but girl toys (except for Annie's Hot Wheels collection) and estrogen here so she'd be in heaven!

Drat! I wish there was something I could do. Put on a well-loved kid's movie, surround her with snacks, prop yourself up on the couch and try to doze off. And here's some hugs. (((Teresa)))

When I was pregnant, my OB became my primary doc, until 6 weeks post partum. She wanted to see me whenever something happened. That way, any medicines I took were safe, and she could evaluate the baby's and my overall health. If your primary isn't your OB, you might want to call and ask.

I was really at my breaking point last night, exhausted and starting to panic a little. I went to my ENT today and she gave me an antibiotic that should help, and another med I need to check with my OBGYN-luckily my 8 month appt is tomorrow morning. I will have gone to 4 different docs in 6 days!!! Yuck!

The Neti pot sounds like a good idea-I saw it on Oprah with Doc Oz once. I just need to find one. I'm all about the drug-free safe choices lately-nose strips, lots of liquids, humidifer and saliene nose drops.

I felt a little better today. My mom was able to come stay with Olivia while I went to my doc appt, then DH came home early (after the root canal) and he took DD to the park, so I got to lay down for a bit.

dh was on anti-bios for a 14 day dosage...he took an otc reccomended by the dr, but had to be asked for (behind the counter) doc also had him use saline solution spray.

i'm getting something post drip, sore throat...tv doc reccomended salt water gargle...

Teresa, I don't know what they built recently in Lorton, but I got my Neti-Pot at a Vitamin Store. You can probably find one at the GNC in Springfield, too. They usually come with packets, but you can use a homemade saline solution (salt water) once the packets run out. I hope all is well at your appt. They put my on Augmentin twice so far for my sinus infections, but they haven't helped, and I know that antibiotic is safe for pregnancy. Don't worry too much, get some good sleep, and take care :)

I hope you feel better real soon. I don't have a clue what a neti pot is. Luckily, I've never had sinus problems or nasal drip or any of that..... not yet anyway.

It's nearly 10 pm here and I don't have a Neti Pot, but remembered you said Turkey baster! I have one of those that's never used (and I'll just get a new one if we need it).

I just tried it at the kitchen sink and it was weird, (I'm sure DH would have laughed at me) but my nose feels SOO much better!! I was able to blow out some gross junk and feel like this is concrete progress!! I;m not exactly sure how to tip my head (towards the ceiling or side?), but something worked well enough!

Thank you thank you so much again!! Life saver! I may be able to sleep tonight-what a concept!

Here's an update-I was able to sleep last night-not the whole time through, but no gasping for air in the middle of the night!! Felt good, even though I had to get up early for a doc appt. Now if I could somehow cut off the left side of my face (sinus pain) I'd feel great!! lol How do boxers survive getting punched in the face so much???

Audrey-that's a good idea! Yesterday I had to get my mom and DH call my primary doc and OB to tell them what the ENT had prescribed and make sure everyone knew everything-and thought it was safe. What a pain!

Poor Teresa! It's hard enough being 8-months pregnant without the sinus problems. Hope you're feeling better. I predict in one month you'll feel great--spring will be here and so will your new little one.

I went to Google and typed in "Make your own Neti Pot and how to use it" and got some answers.

One thing they said was if you make your own solution to use 8 oz. of warm water and 1/4 tsp. of non-iodized salt. You tip your head to the side.

I am glad you are getting some sleep finally and are feeling a bit better.

Granlan-Olivia would love it, but I think it would kill my mom! lol My mom is good for a couple hours at a time! There are days, when I barely survive it! lol

My mom came down twice this week, once when I had a doc appt and then last night she brought dinner and let me take a quick nap! it was great!
