Today is Thanksgiving in Canada (or Canadia, as a salesclerk once said to me, with a rather puzzled look on her face.)

Happy Thanksgiving day also to all Canadian Garden Web members and happy Columbus Day to our American friends. We will be having Thanksgiving on Monday at my daughters. My son-in-law, the chef, likes to put on dinner parties, so it will be quite a feed. I am spending the rest of the weekend cleaning up my garden and getting ready for winter. Such cute kiddos! I gained a couple pounds reading what everyone had for the holiday. DD2 and her family came for Thanksgiving.. Weather was nice, so we walked to the beach each morning to build sandcastles and hunt for seashells, then back home to swim. We had traditional Thanksgiving food, then on Friday did a pre-3rd bday party for DGD2/JC - pizza, presents and she helped make cupcakes. I'm glad they were able to come (JC had been sick earlier this week) because my heart is broken. We lost our sweet Ellie on Tuesday. Or "Ellie no eyes" as JC called her. While I knew she hadn't been feeling herself the last two months, we had no idea the end was near. (Edited day, week has been a blur.)

I had an exhausting Thanksgiving day— early in the am DD called and was feeling terrible, went to urgent care and was diagnosed with strep— her second case in 30 days. They all had strep the very beginning of November, they all had Covid in the middle of the month and are now ending the month with another bout of strep. Of course they could not come, we did not want to be exposed (especially mother) and if DD has it at least one of the kids does too ☹️ So I cooked all the food and packed it in bakeware, made the rolls and sent a trunkload of food to them via DH while I stayed home cooking for the rest of us. We were only five for dinner but we had a great time nonetheless, and played cards afterward. The saying ”man proposes, God disposes” comes to mind.… We facetimed with the kids and I received a lovely text from our SIL thanking us for the dinner and telling is how thankful he is that we are his in-laws. Of course that made the day for me!

Oh, thanks for the reminder. I am always forgetting to wish my boss, who is from Toronto, a happy Canadian holiday. Totally missed Canada Day. oops.

Happy Thanksgiving! I've spent the day trying to convince everyone that I got the day off to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving because of my family ties in Canada.

Actually, it's the day Columbus invaded America, but I'm really enjoying the looks that I get when I mention it.

Well thanks for remembering !! we're in Dallas right now; my daughter said she felt abandoned on sunday, when her friends were having family dinners.
I'll have to cook a big dinner when I come home.

Thanks everyone! We had a lovly Thangsgiving here at the cottage. The leaves are at thir best, very pretty.

Lots of leftover turkey, my favourite part!

And a happy turkey day from me too!!
My hope for all my friends in "Canadia" is that their turkey is done without the breast being dry, that the gravy is flavorful and neither lumpy nor "skinny", that the stuffing is just the way you like it and all your pies yummy with flaky crusts, lushous interiors and lots of whipped cream.
