Comments (9)"My sage advice is to not let your fabricator make decisions about your kitchen!" Kariwb, one of the best lines ever! LOL I agree with the general sentiment to get what you love. BUT, with one caveat, don't pick marble unless you have brought a piece home, tested water, lemon juice, vinegar, tomatoe sauce, etc, and decided the markings don't bother you. I love marble when I see it in restaurants, even in walkways, driveways, for heaven's sakes. but when I brought a sample home of my bathroom slab, I realized I couldn't live with the etchings left behind by WATER! Luckily, I deal with a super granite yard, and they let me choose something else. So, I assume you have done this as you've said you've come to terms with it. I had people try to talk me out of a granite counter, and every time they came over after it was installed, never failed to mention how they could never live with the maintenance and having to be careful not to slam dishes, etc. So, no matter what you pick you won't be able to please everyone, and some people will have a differing opinion than yours. I have never seen marble in a real life kitchen, that would be the best, if you could actually see a carrera island. Seeing a vessel sink on a kitchen height vanity convinced me I wouldn't want one in my BR, though I thought I would. That's my sage advice!...See MoreWhite or Calcutta Macaubus Quartzite etch?
Comments (4)I feel your pain. Probably spent 4 months agonizing over quartzite. Eventually went with a couple of very nice slabs of Madre Perola quartzite, which have been absolutely bullet proof after 9 months. No stains and no etches. My husband even used Windex on it!!!...no etches. It took me a long time to track down the info I needed to be comfortable with the decision, but the Gardenweb community came through with the info I needed. I've attached a link to one of my threads with some White Princess info. Good luck. Here is a link that might be useful: Quartzite info...See Moresuperwhite quartzite question
Comments (3)If your super white is actually quartzite it will not etch. If it's marble mis-labelled as quartzite it will etch. Homed or polished will make no difference. Be sure you get a sample of your actual slabs and test them for etching, staining and scratching to be sure you're getting quartzite and not marble. Don't trust what the stone yard tells you....See Moresuperwhite quartzite install issues
Comments (16)Sorry I guess I wasn’t clear- I was not there when they cut the sink. I was there when they cut the pieces that would eventually hold the sink. I gave the sink weeks before and they cut the hole after I was there for perimeter of the counter- timeline us as follow- sink delivered to fabricator , I go to fabricator to review of seaming and layout we did this twice actually fabricator cuts counter out of slabs) no cracks at this point - then I have to leave the shop - they assure me everything is fine - they then go to cut the two holes in each side of the counters tops to hold the sink- (seam at center of sink) that’s when said they wanted to use an over mount sink bc they thought it would break ....the day before install then they install at my house- does that clear it up? As for the seams - we spent a lot of time on the seam where the sink is. That was a huge concern and while it’s not perfect I wasn’t expecting perfection . We talked briefly about about the other seam - focusing on the pattern through the seam. What’s bothersome is the color - they were to cut it to remove the dark portion of the section and still have the pattern match . That seam is a main concern and the massive crack which was poorly repaired and we were never told about that major issue. Why do you ask?...See Morelavender_lass
