Does anyone here actually have vetrazzo in your kitchen? rop

I am 75% sure I want to go with the paladian grey vetrazzo but was hoping to get some real life opinions from those who have used it. Is it durable? How easy is it to stain?

Do you think it's a nice choice for a small kitchen with hardwood floors, white abstrakt cabinet doors, a wolf range and blomberg stainless fridge?

should I look at caesarstone instead?

We don't have it, but it used to be made nearby so a lot of restaurants, public buildings, and houses around here have it. (I think they also got LEED points for it being local and recycled.) It has always been in good shape wherever I've seen it, including some pretty high use areas (restaurant bars/counters), though I don't think anything is more than five years old or so. I like the effect with modern or really clean/simple lines a lot. It was a little too modern for us (and then they moved their factory out of state right as we were in the midst of counter decisions, which was the clincher). I find the Caesarstone look a bit different from Vetrazzo, though, so I think a big part of it is just which look you like. If you have a modern kitchen with white as the main color, some of the colorful Vetrazzo counters (like the Skyy vodka bottle one) would be pretty amazing, I think!

thank you so much, artemis! all that is great to know! I was thinking about the blue but got scared. ;o) it's super funky and while I love me some funky, it might be too much for such a big commitment/purchase.

but the grey and green and other more muted ones are so pretty, and have just enough personality for my taste. I was just curious about lasting power, maintenance, etc. :o)

ALICIA7B HI! After ALL these comments, and posts, that went WAY off the track, to what YOU posted, asked for, ...did you EVER find any of the OLD/ANTIQUE/ORIGINAL Christmas Cactus from anyone? I was sent THIS post, to look at.... I have just put up my own post, looking for cuttings of the plant myself. My original one, that was over 150yo!! The last of it JUST died, and it is weeks before X-mas now. Nice gift:( I was the one in the family to be entrusted to keep it alive, I am the gardener in the family. But after 3.5 decades in south Fla. after living in Conn. all its life, and mine, it died. I got some cuttings of the ORIGINAL cactus after mine started to rot and die slowly over a period of years, from some very nice people, like 5 years ago. But THOSE plants just gave out on me, after a super HOT summer, and Hurricane Irma coming through my city, it just got to stressed, I assume, and it finally died. Did YOU ever get any cuttings/stems from someone with a huge specimen...and maybe might be willing to part with a few more? IF you even see this reply to your post....I am hoping you do....maybe you can tell me who to ask. Thank you. ******* I see a picture of a HUGE pot of the X-Mas cactus, you got it from someone. You got A LOT of cuttings from someone!!! Wow! THAT is the one I am desperate to get. I can see a few other pics. But they are not the same thing. This is an old post, so the pictures are not showing up. I dont see how a cactus that is over 150yo,...mine was,...can be a 'hybrid'. It is the one that all the others came from! I cant read ALL these posts, but i read a few, and someone said it was a hybrid. All i know is that THIS is the one i would like to find. I hope YOU or someone sees this, and can help me out. THIS was my 150+ yo specimen. Maybe YOU can help me out? That one you have is huge, and now 6 years later, it must be much bigger...??? Care to share????

I posted a while ago and never came back to answer the questions- sorry! I can give an update: Weve had the range for about 18 months now and we are very happy with it. We use the griddle very often, the grill insert from time to time The steam oven works well- no water on the floor- the water container has a lid that closes before you slip it in the slot. My only complaint- the small oven does not brown evenly on convention bake- I baked 2 pies in there at Thanksgiving (one at a time)- and the tops browned more at the back end of the over- had to be careful and cover with aluminum foil to avoid burning. We've had problems with the circular thermometer in the center of the range- In my opinion this is a silly feature - it does not really reflect the temperature inside the oven as i moves immediately on setting on or off, and something was wrong with the way it was wired into our range- the wires came loose at least twice- we had the warranty so repair was completely free - might as well since it was free, and now its been fine - I wouldnt pay to repair this as it is not very useful. I have never used self clean- and after readying about frying electronics I have elected to not use that feature and clean the oven myself.

writersblock there are other countertops, just not on that wall. if something cathes on fire we will put it on the sink which is on a perpendicular wall. or just behind us on the counter. here's a picture http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2711/4481744257_5dc0aa5567.jpg the range will go where the colourful cutting boards are. we've thought about layout a lot but if you have other suggestions, I'd love them. Keep in mind the wall on the left goes into the living room and has a 'window' through to the dining room, making the whole left side there a peninsula. we have a second floor so venting that way isn't an option. We are not going to get a downdraft. It's what we have now and does not work for us. Behind where we want to put the range is another unit. the only external wall in the kitchen is the one with the glass blocks. the blocks are the only natural light we have in there, not willing to block that in any way.

I have/had one. Well, it's still there, but I haven't posted on it in about a year and a half. Too many other life challenges/changes kind of took over and I didn't have time or the energy for it anymore. I'll post the link in case anyone wants to take a peek. I still love looking at some blogs, though. Between Naps on the Porch is one of my favorites. Also, I like Designs By Gollum. That's Michael Lee West, the author, and she used to post here as Hollygolightly. Another good one is Southern Hospitality. That lovely lady posted here as Georgiagal, I believe. Oh, and by the way, the house in my header is NOT my house. I so wish it was! All the other interior shots and backyard/back porch shots are of my actual house, though. Years ago, someone posted the picture of the house I used in my header, and I saved it as a "someday" dream house. I believe Flyingflower posted the pic originally. Summersucks, Sorry I thought this got posted.
Again--I just read how one prospective owner of Vetrazzo is still undecided by 25%. I say, "Go for it". I have Paladian Gray in both my bathrooms and it is pure elegance. It holds up well and of course I treat it well. I use a good granite sealer, which is just good "pride of ownership" sense. I am also happy to have a sustainable product, each slab having it's own uniqueness, like an original piece of art. It was great to work with as my focal point, applying back slash, wall color, cabinets etc. that complimented it perfectly. My friends are as impressed with it as I am and love the choice of Paladian Gray. There are so many beautiful Vetrazzo colors to choose from, they're all gorgeous.
