Lots of stuff here! Great! The Ujukitsu is sweet, tastes like a white, sweet grapefruit. I'm giving it to someone because with 2 grapefruit, especially the RR, it's overkill. It's very nice, though. There's a grower here who's always looking for something new to introduce here, that's where these oddballs came from. They trial them for several years before releasing them. I notice they aren't selling a couple of things that didn't survive our two bad freezes a few years ago, a week or so of temps in the 20's, in January of 2 years. All of my citrus except for the keffir lime are in the ground. It's too small, about 6" tall, and was pretty stressed when I got it, so it's staying in a pot indefinitely. It may not survive our freezes. Oh, I have seedlings of FD that are in pots, they're also about 6" tall. Yes, when I talk about getting RR in grocery stores, I mean the fruit. Though citrus trees have been showing up in some grocery stores here. Calamondins shouldn't be too expensive, they're usually around $25 or more here. Asians use them a lot, at least for decoration since they hold the fruit for months, so some nurseries here have a lot of them. They're too sour to eat out of hand, so I don't have one. A lot of them aren't grafted. I'll keep the mandarin from producing fruit by pinching them off when they start forming. I know it will shed most of them by itself, and any that it doesn't shed will get removed. It needs to focus on getting healthy and growing roots. Its leave are yellow instead of green, and it hasn't started growing new leaves yet, but then, most of my citrus are just beginning to leaf out. Can nurseries in Texas ship out of state? I don't know if they can or not, but I've seen both the Buddha's Hand and variegated lemon trees locally. I don't think I've seen any other variegated citrus. I like the looks of both, but don't know what I'd do with that Buddha's Hand fruit. Think it would make good limoncello? I'm going to make some with the lemons still on my tree. Look it up, it's a really nice lemon liqueur, easy to make, too. Key lime - is it grafted? A lot of them here aren't grafted, and that may be why it isn't producing. I don't grow limes since they won't survive a cold winter. The limequat will, though, but there's no way it would survive in your area. If you could grow kumquats in the ground, it might, though. Bloomsweet is sweet, it's a white grapefruit. I got it because it can have an extended harvest season, going as late as May. That's here, of course. I know what you mean about labels - I think one on a double brugmansia that I got from someone in Florida has ended up in a bird nest somewhere. A tip - if you write on the tag with a pencil, it won't fade. Everything else will. Your grocery stores sound unimpressive. We get good produce here, not waxed, fresh, and some stores have an organic section, though it's usually too expensive. I think Whole Foods and Central Market have made them realize that there's a real interest in better produce. Yes, I use Superthrive, and need to get another bottle. I've watered the transplanted citrus with it a couple of times. Some people swear by it, some people swear at it. But there's plenty of research to show that it is helpful. I used to grow a lot of orchids, and the people in the orchid society use it religiously when transplanting. My newest plant adventure is hostas. I've posted a bit about them on that forum, but in short, I got one last year and enjoyed it until it died, then I just stuck another potted plant on top of the pot the hosta was in (lazy move, that). I was quite surprised a few weeks ago to discover that the hosta has resurrected itself and is growing strong! They aren't supposed to grow here, so most people who grow them grow them as annuals. I've gotten 2 more in the last week or so, and will play with these three for a while and see how they do. I love them, and really want to succeed with them. Elizabeth

Hi Tony, I apologize completly on Florida Colors, was upset again, I get too vocal, have to tape my mouth!!!. I received a re-placement plant today from Florida Colors, a new Aztec Gold large grafted plant, with big leaves..am thrilled.. The damaged one does not look good, two tiny leaves...Will carefully plant the new one, and hold my breath. ha I think the roots were damaged too on the original aztec gold and possibly candy stripe, the box was caved in, ripped and had been taped by the PO.. was Post office damage..I was too eager to plant them, did not check the roots, carefully set them in the soil. I have my plants in 5 gallon black containers, with cactus mix and some added perlite. I have only transplanted one of Michaels plants, can cun, from a 1 gallon to 5..waited for it to head toward drying so soil would stay together, for less stress on the plant. Have not transplanted the other two one gallon ones, will not on the one to flower. Happy to hear I did good on the purchases..am so looking forward to blooms. Super soil and pearlite..really, boy those roots from can cun were pure white and all the way to the bottom of the can..I have super soil.. I ordered celidine from FC few weeks ago, hopefully will receive that one. Don't know what is next!! ha I was wrong on Florida Colors, Will send them a thank you. Karen

Karen- Two things to mention. One is that that block wall can be a real problem because it retains and radiates much heat. If you notice your leaves getting yellowish and dry you can go to Home Depot or a similar place and find a rolled up reed fence. Just roll it out against the wall and hold it there with those long green plant stakes. Use plant tie wire to tie to the stakes. This completely stopped the leaf burn I was getting and my plants are sooooo much better looking this year because of the softer heat flow. Secondly, remember a plumeria in the ground wants to grow 10 feet tall and 20 feet in diameter. I find that a minimum of three feet to something is difficult to prune and controll because these plants like to be wider than tall. Your plants are about 1 foot from the wall which may eventually be a problem as the plant will expand forward. If you bring a string out from the stem to 3' and draw a circle, you will have a hard time keeping your plant within that space soon. I use large poles and plant ties to pull up branches that want to spread out. Look in the picture and see some 5 year old plants and notice the size and width. Another thing to consider is raising the base. Look at the picture below and notice the bases of the plants are in a small planter (with drain holes in the low end) and on top of that they are raised on small volcano looking mounds covered with rock (in the valley I would use white river rock) to cut down on erosion of the mound. The value of this is that even heavy rains will drain out and the part above lawn level will dry out keeping the upper roots dry. This is very important if you have a clay soil. A sand soil is not so critical. The good news is that you can leave your plant there for at least one year. Within two years it gets more difficult to move and adjust plants. It took me awhile to dig out my area, get the bricks in, find a building supply that sold soil by the scoop, find a pick-up to haul the dirt. Mix the soil with sand and perlite and build the mounds. Put in the stakes and tie up the plants. It took time but I am glad I did it. Remember, Plumerias are fat medium sized trees and not the cute little plants we buy in containers. Hello Felan, I am sorry I don't have any advise pertaining to the product you are inquiring about. However, maybe I can be of help reguarding your lack of a credit card, or at least give you some advice on aquiring some of the conveniences that a credit card affords you. Are you aware that a debit card, or ATM (automated teller machine) card, basically works just like a credit card? Because of my lack of credit, I have not been able to get a credit card (or at least one with a less then ridiculous interest rate). But to my suprise I have found that when ordering items that I have seen on TV, I still have the freedom to choose the payment plan option. In some cases, I am not even sure if they can tell a credit card from a debit card. When, they ask what type of card I have, I simply reply, Visa and go on to give the required information. The payments are deducted directly from my checking account. However, I believe you can also have debit cards linked to other types of accounts, such as savings. Check it out! Once you get one, you'll wonder how you ever got along with out it. Just make sure your bank deals with one of the major companies, (for example mine is uses Visa) and make sure you don't get an account with allot of, or high service charges. Most banks offer economy checking accounts, or free savings accounts. For example, my checking account doesn't earn interest but there are no charges for card use, and no limit on check use as long as I keep at least $100 in the account. Try it you'll love having one!
