Instructions???? No, it's Customer Service

O.K. so the other thread got a little crazy, but I experienced a lot of frustration with the DW mounting as well.

The granite guys did the granite and Sears installed the dishwasher. The dishwasher didn't get mounted and tipped forward everytime I slid out the top rack. I called the plumber and he said the granite guys were to drill into the granite (yikes!) and mount it to the top.

The granite guys said the plumber should have drilled into the cabinets (yikes!) and side-mounted it. Both options freaked me out so I just slid a cutting board snuggly into the small space between the top of the DW and the granite. Obviously we realized there was no way this was to be permanent. After spending all this money on a new kitchen we were not going to rig something like this.

I called the granite guy back and he sent someone out who side mounted the DW to the cabinets. PERFECT! Of course, it would have been better if one of those knuckleheads assumed responsibility to make sure it was done correctly to begin with, instead of pointing the finger at each other!

It's not fair to call them knuckleheads. This is an issue that falls between the cracks. If you side mount it to the cabinets, the best way to do it, it's not a granite issue, and it also isn't really a plumbing issue. Usually a GC, if you have one, will do it for you.

sorry about the yelling..forgot to turn off the caps...LOL. a service person has determined it to be now repairable. The material that came off was not just flakes of enamel. It is a large chunk of blackened on the outside/blue enamel on the inside...leaving bare metal. the flaw is also on the back of the oven cavity...unless I was slinging sugar around by hand it isn't any food item. And causing the enamel to melt and run and form large chunks seems out of the realm of possibility. I looked up on a manufacturers website what could damage the enamel and hydroflouric acid was about it. It is made to be self-cleaning oven...high heat. The interior shouldn't melt with normal cooking of food. And I also know that I "spilled' nothing. If you look closely at the pictures I took, you can see that the damage extends under the edge of the convection fan in the back of the oven...I couldn't have spilled it there.

Did you go back to Costco and explain the problem? Perhaps they could pull a set of instructions from a box in stock and copy it for you? I've heard that Costco has great customer service. Did you call the manufacturer or google the pergola online with "instructions?"

I've become very good at bringing my reusable bags to the grocery store by just leaving them sitting on my front passenger seat. I never go into the grocery store without them now. However I rarely take them into the drugstore or other non-grocery store because I'm just not in the habit. I need to do better at that. I also think I need a couple smaller plastic bag equivalent size to use for those purchases of smaller items when you have too many to just carry out without a bag. I do however reuse the plastic ones (that don't fall apart with first use) as a receptacle for sifted cat litter - placed in a covered pail and used until full then they get tied up and put in the garbage. It is just too gross smelling to not put your cat box stuff in a sealed plastic bag. If I didn't get a few from the store I'd be buying plastic waste can liners for this purpose.

granite guy told me there should be holes on the side to side mount it, but i couldn't find any holes ext at the top, which is where the instruction manual said it should be mounted. i called the granite guys back and they agreed they would top mount it when they installed. interesting that this is a common issue. i guess the sidemount is easier, but i didn't have a clue where/how it could be attached.

Dishwashers have to be on site so the granite people can drill holes for wood blocks. If the DW was in fact sitting there, the granite company could have at least mentioned it since a lot of DW are top mounted. The stone company I used would not come and template until the dishwasher was there. But since it had the side brackets (I had to show them the specs) they were willing to template without waiting for the backordered DW to actually be in place.

You are lucky your DW has side holes. These are not that common yet and typically say "stone counter top" ready in the specs.

Susan,

As I responded to Buffetgirl that the plumber is responsible for mounting the DW. Period. In consultation with the granite people, sure, but a plumber definitely should be able to do the "woodworking" involved in mounting the DW.

Makes me wonder, am I expecting too much of our "modern" workers? All this used to be understood and properly done by them.

Maybe it makes a difference if it is a new DW vs an existing one...we got new countertops and sink but the cabinets and appliances were not changing, and stayed right in place as the installers put in the countertops. Stone guys put in mounts for DW and screwed it in to the new counter--never asked them to, they just did it as part of the job. Glad you got your problem solved and everything is in place now.
