Another question about Brie

I made the Famous Brie and Chilies Soup from this forum - please forgive me, I do not know who posted it to give proper credit, but the brie never melted completely. I made this soup often last winter and never had this problem. I purchased a 2 lb wheel from Sam's Club - as I had done last year as well. Using really expensive brie seemed to be a waste for this soup. I did remove all the rind, as I found out previously the rind never melted. Last night I heated the leftovers - actually took it to a boil and the small pieces of cheese still did not melt.

Any suggestions - ideas - what went wrong? I have 3/4 of the wheel left for more soup.
