Oozing green liquid is a fairly rare occurrence for an uninjured adult monarch. Butterflies that had the problem have tested negative for OE from the cases I've seen documented. I don't know that someone has been able to nail down a cause. Almost all cases are seen when the butterfly has successfully eclosed. Yours is a rare case because under normal circumstances it would have died in the chrysalis and the green liquid would never have been seen.

It is both a thermostat and a control, so for this discussion the two terms are interchangeable. I'm not concerned about the wifi part of the link - that is encrypted. But this all flows up to a server run by Bryant. When you run the Bryant "MyEvolution" app, it connects to the Bryant server. It acts as a middle man in talking to the control/thermostat in your house. So both the link from the control to Bryant's server and the link from the app to the server are of concern. (After that one can start to wonder about the security of that server itself.) To be really secure, the server ought to just facilitate the setup of a direct, encrypted, connection between your app to the control. But for now I would be satisfied with knowing that the links to the server were secure and the app is diligent in keeping each user's stuff secure and separate from that for other users.

Nik, I am a bit of a honeysuckle sucker, I must admit. My Dallas TX grandparents grew the potentially invasive L. japonica Halliana over an arch, but I don't believe it ever had an opportunity to sneak into green spaces since the berries and runners were kept in check. Unmaintained Halliana or Halliana grown near wild areas in the southern US could star in a horror movie where it presents as sweetly seductive until it eats your garage, your home and your family and then snakes across the countryside devouring everything in its path, especially native species and wildlife habitat. In my opinion, this is hands down THE most fragrant honeysuckle ever except for L. fragrantissima. As others on the forum, I adore L. periclymenum. I have a mother plant of Serotina and two rooted descendants. The mother intertwines a large Blush Noisette. Summer evenings are heaven when the breeze carries the aroma across my porch! In my garden, Serotina is healthy, fragrant and beautiful. It has a wonderful habit when pruned each year. If it grows well in your area, I highly recommend it. I have seen and smelled espaliers of L. fragrantissima. I plan to try patiently training one someday. I can't even begin to describe the intoxicating aroma...in winter. It renders me speechless. L. japonica grows well here. Of course, Portland has a nigh perfect climate for plants labeled "japonica". The Purpurea variety has lovely burgundy tinged leaves, and I would have to actually scaffold its misbehavior for it to become a malevolent force in my city garden. Your climate is so different that my remarks about L. japonica's nature are probably only mildly helpful, but it sounds like this adaptive plant has made itself at home in Greece, too. L. japonica Purpurea is fragrant in the evening, but to my nose, much less so than L. periclymenum Serotina. I believe that Lonicera x tellmanniana is celebrated for its shade tolerance. It is brightly colored but not very fragrant to my nose. Hummingbirds seem to enjoy it as much as any other honeysuckle. I find the plant itself, like japonica, a bit untidier than periclymenums. I work with zinnias because I can see the results of my hybridizations the same year that I make them. My breeding objectives include new flower forms and modified plant forms (like longer narrower leaves with sharp points). This is a current zinnia flowerform.And this is an example of narrow pointed zinnia leaves.You can click on those photos to see larger versions. I am also hybridizing with narrow tubular zinnia petals.Zinnias bloom in about six weeks from seed, which means you don't have to wait a long time to see the results of a cross. You can have viable green seeds in three weeks from applying pollen to a stigma. So from pollen application to new bloom opening can be as quick as nine weeks, or twelve weeks (3 months) at a more leisurely piece. I also grow zinnias indoors during the Winter, which makes this a year round hobby for me. So I can grow four generations a year--two outdoors and two indoors. You could probably speed up your rose breeding by growing them indoors during the Winter. Or you could grow rose hybrids in a greenhouse for an extended rose season. Unfortunately I don't have a greenhouse, so I have to use fluorescent lights.They say that bright lighting during a gloomy Winter can actually improve your psychological outlook. That works for me. ZM
