Knitters & cocheters,I need a skein of yarn.....can you help me?

I bought some baby yarn at the flea market.Started an afghan but now realize I need one more skein of white.And guess what...it's no longer sold in stores! It's Red Heart baby fingering size,3 ply,1 3/4 oz,270 yds.Has a blue label with a pink heart on it.The new baby yarns are thicker and won't work for me.I looked on ebay and yes there is some but it's sold in lots and I don't need all that yarn just 1 skein.I thought maybe someone here would have a skein they don't need anymore.I will gladly pay for it and all shipping costs.Can anyone help me out? Pretty please,with sugar on it? LOL! I already have the afghan half done and all that work will be for nothing if I can't find the yarn.Darn!

I'm on vacation and won't be back until March 30th. If you don't find it before then, I'll check. I was working on a baby afghan in white (over a year ago) so maybe I have it.

Great socks, Socks! I get mine closer to the same size by working on both socks at the same time. I start them both at the same time on different sets of needles, which helps me get them to match, also. I do a couple of inches on one, then on the other. That way, my gauge stays almost the same on each sock. When I have a ball of yarn that will make two socks, instead of needing two balls, I get out the kitchen scale and weigh it, then wind another ball out of it until I get equal balls. You may have to pull out almost a golf ball size ball until the ends match, but you can use it up at the toe if you run out on one sock. There, no one will ever know they don't match! I am guessing that now they want you to work on the two legs at the same time so that you will have an exact match in each leg for decreases and length. In that case, you need two balls of yarn. If you have only one ball remaining, you could knit from either end of the skein to get the same effect, though it can be a little awkward. I am not sure what you are doing to knit the legs. Usually you cast off at the beginning of a row. But here I am guessing that they are having you cast off one stitch at the end of the right leg and then that gap is the crotch, the separation for the two legs. You will also be donating the last stitch after the cast off gap to the left leg it seems to me as you pick up the stitches from the holder??? Where does it say to cast off from the original leg? I don't see it in your instructions you copied for us. Does what I interpret make sense? Do you need to share more of the instruction wording?

Congratulations on your new hobby! As the others have said, one of the reasons you are getting those blocks of color is that the length of yarn for each color is longer than what you are looking for. Another reason is the type of stitch you are using. If you use treble crochet, (and the variegated you've chosen), you can't help but get blocks. If you were to use single crochet (and the same type of yarn), you would end us with longer patches of color, but they wouldn't be as tall. Of course, there is no way to know where the next stripe of the same color would show up on the next row and most likely you will still have some "pooling", albeit with a bit different look. I don't believe it has anything to do with changing the gauge of your stitches. If the width of the scarf changes, the color blocks will change also, but you will never get a speckled look using that yarn, no matter what stitch you use. Unfortunately, many of the "speckled" yarns are fingering weight, not worsted. Not that worsted speckled doesn't exist, but I don't see it in the less expensive yarns. A couple of suggestions might be Red Heart Fiesta. There is a variegated strand plied with a solid and that might give you an interesting look. It is made similar to the Fiesta, but is so soft and I love the way the colors blend. I made at least a dozen scarves as Christmas gifts this past season, and had loads and loads of compliments on them. I used Red Heart pomp-a-doodle yarn, purchased at Michaels. I knit two stitches between each pompom. Very fast, very cute. I also made stuffed "aliens" for my kids and my nieces, which were a big hit. It looks as if Michaels may be discontinuing that yarn, and have replaced it with their own "Loops and Threads" pom-pom yarn. Their pompoms are much closer together; there is no way to get two stitches between the pompoms. Thanks for the help ladies! I haven't found any yet except on ebay and like I said it's in lots.I can wait until the 30th..the baby isn't due til June.
Thanks for the link good36 but that is pompadour yarn,which is different.The one I need is plain white,no shiney thread in it like the pompadour.
I'l keep looking unless I hear from sheilajoyce or georgysmom. I got the yarn at a deal at the fleamarket,2 green,2 yellow and 1 white.Figuring that would be plenty for an afghan....but now I'm running out of the white.

Sorry but the fingering yarn I have is Bernat. You might try Ravelry.com. You would have to join, and it is free. They have a destashing and ISO (in search of) site and you can ask for anyone who has some to sell or trade.

CR - why not try emailing the sellers on ebay that have it and see if they have a single skein they could sell to you? Worth a try anyhow.

Thanks everyone! Who'd have thought one little skein of yarn would be so hard to find? LOL! I'm looking on Ravelry now...so far all I see is every color but white!

Sorry your yarn hasn't turned up yet. I'll check when I get home. I know the feeling. I started an afghan for a friend years ago and when I was almost finished, it became apparent I would not have enough yarn. Back in those days, I made my afghans longer than the pattern called for. I don't know what I did when figuring out how many skeins I would need but something went wrong. I had made this particular afghan several times and this was the first time I shorted myself. I knew if I ripped out 1/3 of the afghan it would be the size it was suppose to be and I would have enough yarn to finish. I started the project for my friends 60th birthday. I mailed it to her for her 80th birthday! I sent it with a card that said Happy 60th Birthday.....she thought I was losing it until she read the explanation. If nothing else, we got a good laugh from it.

Did you post over on the 'knitting and crocheting' forum here at GW? They may be able to help you.

I'll check when I to to my thrift shop tomorrow, I know I have some down there but not sure if it's the right one. Didn't find any here in the house in my craft room, but I haven't checked my building out back that has some yarn stashed in it. Good grief, yarn everywhere!

Well, I'm home and I checked my yarn but I'm sorry to say it is not the same. I was so hopeful since I bought it for a baby afghan that I never finished. I'm so sorry I couldn't be of help.....hope you find it someplace.

I checked my stash and mine is white with the shiny thread. Have quite a bit of yarn and was hoping I had what you needed. Know the feeling, Been there and done that before. Hope you find it.
