Painting previously painted trim---use primer?

I started painting the trim in my kitchen and dining room last night. Sanded it, filled holes etc. The trim was painted "Brown Sugar" kind of a light brown. I am using Sherwin Williams Duration Home Semi-Gloss in Dover White. I put one coat and everything seems fine, but now I'm wondering if I should have put primer on first since I am painting over a darker color. Just feel it would give the white a better platform. So, being that I have my first coat of Dover White on, should I just forge on with the 2nd and do a 3rd coat if it's needed....or should I get out my primer and put a coat of that on, then finish with a final coat of the Sherwin Williams.
