I've just repaired a badly installed metal roof. I didn't install it. It was on the house when I bought the house. Metal roofing installation is a specialty skill. You need a metal roofing specialist that does nothing else. Even that won't guarantee that you get a good installation. Do your due diligence. A good metal roofer will provide you lots of references. Be sure to go and look at some of their 10 or 20 year old roofs. A good metal roofing specialist will insist specifying and using proper materials. They will develop a very precise plan on how they will structure an installation. Make them explain it. They should want to educate you. There are a million ways to screw a roof up. I'm the victim of one of the crappy installers. It will be a 40-year nightmare that is going to require constant vigilance. You may want to get a referral from one of the trade associations. There are lot a shysters out there, hire someone who has real experience, real references and a really good reputation.

No, let's not have a post about whether or not to take off one's shoes. Please. I'm begging you. :-) You can paste the wallpaper back down easily, there is even wallpaper paste available in a little bottle with a sponge top (like a shoe polish bottle) just for lifting seams and edges. Now, what do you have for trim? If it's painted, you're in luck. You can get a wood trim piece called an "outside corner molding" (aka corner bead molding or L-corner molding) that wraps neatly around the corner at Home Depot, and it's quite cheap in its plainest form. Predrill the trim and install with thin nails, fill nail holes with a bit of wood putty and sand that smooth, then prime and paint to match the trim. Burton Moldings has a couple of fancier ones in MDF, too. If you have stained trim it'll be a little trickier but with some hunting around the Web and even a local full-service lumberyard (not a big box store like Home Depot) you'll probably be able to match the wood species so you can try to match the stain color. If you have very fancy trim, like Victorian style, there are fancy turned corner beads as an option as well. No more worry about peeling wallpaper on that corner.

I calculate that there's no comparison in this house. My rags (residue of towels long-used to the point of threadbareness, sheets, underwear, etc.) would turn white with astonishment/shock were they ever to be accorded the exclusivity of enjoying a wash cycle all to themselves ... they usually get dropped into the tub when it comes time to wash the dirty work/gardening clothes. Occasionally they may get washed in warm water, more likely cold ... but it's seldom that they get immersed in fresh water - usually it's water (and soap, with a little extra added) that was cycled through suds-saver after the whites, coloured, linens, etc. ... and dirt that precipitates out of the wash water while in the suds-saver doesn't go back into the washer, but gets flushed down the drain after the upper water has been sucked back, if I'm around to do it. The water is pulled from a well in the yard (that's too close to what used to be the barnyard - I have to bring water that I drink and use for cooking from the city). The well was expensive to construct ... but that was done many years ago, and the long-ago-rather-expensive pump needs repairs from time to time, but not in the seven years that I've known anything about it ... but the landlord takes care of that, when needed. Sometimes I need to haul in some air from the air pump in a "pig" to add to the bubble in the top of the pressure tank, to keep the pump from starting and stopping several times during the withdrawal of a small amount of water - but it's the landlord's pig, and he doesn't charge rent when I use it: he's a really nice guy! It takes a miniscule amount of electricity to produce the water in the washer to wash the clothes. Not much to run the washer for that short time, either. And during most of the year they are dried "online" ... which was the way we dried clothes long before anyone ever heard of computers or the internet. In winter, they'll be hung over a line in the basement. Some of you who read my story about reusing toilet paper, may remember that it included my observation that the regular roll of toilet paper collected some dust while not in use for several months ... well, it's about the swame story on the roll of paper towels hung under the kitchen cupboards. I was waiting to see if anyone else had a comment.....I think waiting for the sprouts to appear is a good idea because if you spread the shredded paper and water it well, it kinda sticks together I think. I have a confetti type shredder and have thought about doing this but I don't like the look of it, although I guess I could cover the paper layer with straw. Instead, I use this paper for bedding in the worm bin, along with the coconut coit. The shredded paper mulch should do a good job of holding in moisture. I would not worry about the highlighter or the staple pieces. HTH. m
