I work for a big box retailer and have probably delivered 1000 refrgerators. Probably an under estimate. That damn plastic is the worst part of the job! Whoever came up with it needs to be taken out and shot. It’s a manufacturing defect, Some manufacturers have plastic that peels off with no effort at all, and some you can spend a half hour peeling it off one inch at a time. If one manufacturer can do it right, then they can all do it right. Frigidaire and Whirlpool and GE, I’m talking to you! You can take a sharp razor blade and steadily run it down the inside edge. You never get it all off, but you can get close and make it a lot less noticeable. The problem with that is, of course, some people don’t want a razor on their new fridge. At that point, you give up and tell them to invest in a pair of tweezers. If you want to complain, complain to the manufacturer. Your delivery people didn’t put that crap on there. It’s your fridge, so deal with it! The cheaper the fridge, the harder it is to get off. Complain to the manufacturer! Complain to the manufacturer! Complain to the manufacturer!

I'm presuming that the shiny metal is stainless steel, or has a finish that won't be damaged by solvents. It's hard to know what to suggest, other than trying a scrubbing pad and cleanser, or possibly a solvent like lacquer thinner, naptha, or MEK. If it were me, I'd call the manufacturer and get their advice as they will know what the metal is and what the plastic is. I also expect that you may be able to destroy/vaporize/carbonize the plastic just by using the grill on high.

-I would try to heat and soften it with a hairdryer, and use a paper towel to try to rub it off. -Try acetone (fingernail polish remover). Just don't use these two methods at the same time because acetone is flammable/combustible. Be sure to come back and post the remedy that works. It would be interesting to know.

Everyone....I didn't understand how it would void the warranty, either. I was hoping someone here would shed some light on that. I think companies just tell you that. I love everyone's idea about using something that you can just throw away. I will pass that along to her. And I think I will try that on top of my cabinets. Sure would beat having to take the plastic placemats and washing them. To those who said you never have to clean if there is molding up there....the molding I have seen in other homes does not go all the way to the ceiling. There is still a space. I would think it would still get dirty up there.
