large handmade paper

i've been making small, thick 5x7 sheets and have had problems with larger sizes... (using a dip method)... i'm sure better supplies would help, but i'm limited to what i've got for now...

I'm about to try to make a fairly large sheet (8 or 10 inches by 20 or so) by pouring pulp and leaving it on the mold to dry....

any thoughts on this? anyone successful making large sheets?

Did you google making paper? Or check some of the craft magazines and contacting the editor? Just a thought I have bought the thinner pages but never even tried to make some. Good luck

Hi, I have just joined the group so that is why I have not responded to your questions before now. I am using the microfleur all the time. It is very good. I am trying to use pressed flowers during the papermaking process, both in the pulp as in the laminating process. The dye keeps running out. Here are the instructions to make the Crhistmas Tree card. Boy, it does look confusing as ever. I'll practice and try to explain it simplier. Sal ------------- The paper that you use to make a 3 tiered Christmas tree will be a 4" X 4", 3" X 3", and a 2" X 2". To make a 4 tiered Christmas tree add a 5" X 5" piece of paper. Fold corner to corner first, then the other corner to corner. Next fold in half and fold. The last fold you turn the paper over and fold in half. On figure 2 you collapse the triangle to form the base of the tree. Make sure to make the creases well. I know it's a little confusing at first but call me and I'll walk you through when you're ready. If you use paper like wrapping paper, remember the design is on the outside when you make the folds until you make the last fold where you flip the paper over.

Madwoman, you are a gramma after my own heart!!To be honest, I think the basic paper making kit you can buy at Michael's is the way to go. And I've always said paper making is the very best way to recycle your junk mail. Just last month, I taught a "gourd guts" paper making class at a gourd show. Yes, you can use almost any organic material, but I would put a few drops of an antibacterial soap in the tub if that material is still green (as opposed to "dried" flowers, etc.) And if you don't have liquid starch to keep inks or paints from bleeding, the same amount of white glue will do. I've been making paper for a long, long time. The easiest thing to do, if you're pouring, is to float the mold in a basin of water (preferably NOT a sink. Use a wash tub or a you can get big vats at home/hardware stores...Lowes, Home Depot) When the mold is floating there is a little bit of water on top of the screen which will help the pulp disperse more evenly. You want to be pouring a very thin, watered down pulp. The other option is to get some "formation aid," which you can buy from www.Twinrocker.com. Or get some okra at the grocery store and soak it overnight and use the sticky, gooey liquid in the pulp. What both formation aid and okra juice do is to make the pulp water viscous thus slowing its flow through the screen giving you more time to even out the sheet.

Just want to add that I do not think leaving paper on a mold to dry is a good idea (though I never have tried it!). On the up-side, if it does not work (i.e., if it does not peel off), you could always re-immerse the mold in the vat & wash the pulp off.
