I have never seen one that old with the little accordian postage size pictures. Postcards of towns are valuable because of the image (photographs are better than some drawings) or because of the message. Most postcards of towns are of interest to people that live/lived there. I have been on hunt for a postcard of my grandfather's dr. office for 30 years. It exists but I can never find another. Postcards of that age have some pretty good value -- yours sounds very unusual. Condition of course, makes a difference. Maybe $25-$50. Most in that age -- are $5-10. Check ebay for values ...... I rarely pay over $15-20. I collect hand-colored photographic postcards of the University of Illinois prior to 1918. Yea -- we get that specific!! Cathy

I have a change purse that was my Mom's. It is the size of a debit card and has a velcro flap. I have my BCBS card, my State farm insurance card, my DL, my credit card ( we only have one) and my bank debit card. That's it. It stays in my car in the bin between the seats. If I get out of the car or I am riding my bike I put it into my velcro pocket on the leg of my pants or in my handlebar bag. If I am traveling I will tuck a couple pieces of folding money in, otherwise nothing else. I really do travel light. Haven't had a comb or brush in over 30 years same with lipstick. Don't use a cell phone unless I am out of state and then it goes in my other velcro pocket. c

Hi, Here's a list of what to keep from Clark Howard's website. He's a no nonsense all around money guy. His radio show and website are filled with valuable info on what papers to keep, as well as many other money issues. This doesn't cover receipts in general, but is a great help for that other related stuff. There are probably ideas for receipts too if you do a search there. As far as receipts for everyday purchases, if I think it may be needed later, I take a fat Sharpie pen and write what the item is in large print on the receipt so it's easily read, and just put wherever my current papers are piled or filed. Receipts for large purchases are with the other info on the item, in a ziploc bag, taped to the item. If it's a kitchen appliance, it's taped on the back. Water heater is right on front, along with a business card from my plumber. Furniture receipts can be stapled to the bottom of most pieces. There are lots of good tips on this thread. If receipts are being saved in case of fire or other disaster, remember that with the stuff also goes the receipts. I would add to make sure you have everything important, especially pictures, backed up away from your home. Computers make that very easy now, even though it can be time consuming. I am about to change my system. I have a system I liked in which I had a special coupon-type holder for all my receipts, one for grocery coupons, and another for coupons for various department or clothing stores--and those huge BB&B coupons! I usually carried all that in my purse. One reason was because for awhile I was using 2 different vehicles (at different times) and it was very frustrating to go off and have left something in the other vehicle. Also I really needed to keep good track of my receipts and so I could put it directly in my purse receipt-wallet. Or hated to walk back out to my car from halfway through the grocery store. Plus I also use and old purse-organizer that belonged to my mom, for travel brush, tissue, pen and paper, etc, so I can transfer to another purse. But right now, I am almost always in the same vehicle. Plus, it's not just the weight--although, I was amazed at what just one or 2 more items like that seemed to add-- but I have found that it really takes a much larger purse than you might think to hold these various items without being "stuffed" and hard to wrangle out--so few purses have the right compartments for my stuff. I don't really like the individual slots for phone or pen. So I'm considering changing to a glove-compartment system and keep all these coupons/receipts there. Sure, I'll have to traipse back to my vehicle sometimes when I've walked into a store without my coupon, and I'll have to develop a new good habit of filing my receipt as soon as I get back in, but the tradeoff will be that my purse is less stuffed, and less heavy. I had a Healthy Back bag and did not find it felt less heavy. Plus my stuff tended to slosh around in it since it is not directly upright.
